Meet Luca Sawyer, a Taree High graduate now completing her Bachelor of Arts/Law at the University of NSW, shares her journey from a regional high school to studying and working in Sydney's legal sector. Uncertain about her future in her final year of school, Luca discovered her path through UNSW's Winter School and Pre-Programs, which opened the door to a law pathway she hadn't previously imagined.

Dear TUC Community,
What a great few weeks it has been for Taree Universities Campus and our wider Mid Coast community.

We are delighted to welcome Sarah Holmstrom to the TUC team. Sarah will be supporting our Community Connector Program, strengthening a service that has already helped more than 300 professionals, and over 650 people when their families are included, settle successfully on the Mid Coast since its launch in July 2023. Helping skilled professionals and their families feel connected, supported and at home in our region benefits our entire community, and we are very pleased to have Sarah contributing to this important work. https://communityconnector.com.au/

Last week also saw the return of CareerQuip, the Mid Coast’s career and education expo. Around 1,200 students from 23 schools and training centres joined us at TAFE Taree, where more than 75 exhibitors shared an incredible range of study, training and employment opportunities. https://www.careerquip.com.au/careerquip-2026

It was wonderful to see students asking thoughtful questions, exploring what is possible and making meaningful connections with the people who may help shape their next steps. My sincere thanks go to every school, exhibitor, sponsor, volunteer and attendee who helped make CareerQuip 2026 such a success.

Looking ahead, the next round of UniVenture begins in October. This supported pathway program is designed for people who are considering university but may be unsure about where, or how to begin. If this sounds like something that could help you or someone you know, I encourage you to take a closer look and get in touch with Ben for a friendly conversation about the possibilities.

There is so much opportunity here on the Mid Coast, and we are proud to keep helping people discover how they can go further, close to home.

Warmest regards,
Donna Ballard
CEO

Reimagine the Floodline
This artwork was created by a young community member who was rescued from her home by boat and witnessed her neighbour being rescued by helicopter.

“My neighbour waded in the heavy rain until the people in the helicopter, they came and they got her out.” — Raseel

One year later, she 's returned to her memories through art and creativity.

Her artwork will become part of the permanent Reimagine the Floodline installation at Taree Universities Campus.

One year on, we’re reimagining the floodline.

A year after our region experienced its biggest floods on record, Taree Universities Campus brought community members together for two creative workshops exploring memories of the floods through art.

Beginning with black-and-white photographs of the devastation, participants used colour, paint and collage to create vibrant artworks reflecting resilience, strength and renewal.

Some of those who took part were directly affected by the floods, while others witnessed the devastation unfold across their neighbourhoods. Although our region is still recovering, the workshops offered an opportunity to connect, reflect and look forward together.

These individual artworks will now be digitised and brought together in a permanent installation at Taree Universities Campus.

Thank you to artist Ali Haigh for developing and facilitating these workshops.
