🌱🔬 National Science Week at Ocean View P-12 College — Term 3, Week 5 🚀✨

National Science Week was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore science beyond the classroom under this year’s theme, “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All.” 🌻📚

Throughout the week, students took part in a range of hands-on activities:

✏️🎨 Last Monday, students designed and decorated their own containers before planting their grass heads. By today, their grass heads had grown beautifully, with students proudly showing off their creative designs! 🌾😃
☁️ Students explored cloud seeding, ❄️ made salty snowflakes, 🥒 participated in seed and fruit challenges, 👩‍🔬 enjoyed a special science incursion, and 🎥 watched engaging science videos during mentor lessons.
It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved, asking questions, and enjoying the chance to discover the science behind the world around them! 🧠🌏

A special thank you to our STEM faculty for their hard work and creativity in planning and delivering the activities throughout the week! 🙏👏

📣 Exciting Update - Ocean View College's Outstanding Old Scholars 🏆

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of watching some of our old scholars win their football grand final.

It was so great to see them in their element and have the chance to catch up!

A few exciting updates:

Amanda won the league’s Leading Goal Kicker award, Tamzyn is loving her traineeship, and Ashanti and Rhia are currently enrolled in their university courses while also working part time. Most of all, as you can see, they are all doing amazing and are happy!

I’m also happy to announce that Stars has invited Tamzyn to attend Carlton’s Indigenous Round match in Melbourne in two weeks. While she is there, she will meet some of the Carlton players, tour the facilities and enjoy the AFLW match.

STAY TUNED - as our amazing Year 11 artist, Teleah, has also offered to paint a pair of AFLW boots for the match!!

Very exciting times!

Dear Primary Years families,

We are delighted to welcome everyone to Week 6—more affectionately known as Book Week!!! We have an exciting week of fun planned for our little readers, with plenty of opportunities to celebrate stories, creativity, and the joy of reading.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

Monday:
Students will attend the performance, The Secret Note. Thank you to all families who have finalised payment for this subsidised experience—this ‘choose your own adventure’ play will be an absolute treat!

Wednesday:
We are thrilled to host the SAPOL Police Band, who will be performing student favourites (perhaps even a K-pop number or two!). In addition, a voice artist from the beloved show Bluey will visit to speak with our students—an exciting opportunity to hear from a real-life story-teller!

Friday:
It’s our highly anticipated Book Week Parade at 9:15am in the gym! All R–6 students and families are welcome, as well as 7–12 students if dressed up. This year’s theme, Symphony of Stories will be celebrated with our own unique OVC song. The parade will be followed by games and a beatboxing workshop for students. We can’t wait to see everyone’s creativity on show!

Throughout the week, our Book Week Committee will also be running the Book Fair in the library before and after school from Monday to Wednesday, with lunchtime activities on offer as well.

We know that such a busy, exciting week can bring a mix of feelings, especially as routines shift. Please check in with your child each day, and reach out to their teacher if you notice they are struggling. Encourage your child to use the classroom tools available, or to visit our Wellbeing Hub, open to all students.

Reminders:
- No Hat No Play- please send your child with a hat. This does not need to be a school hat.
- Please keep toys at home, each class has sensory tools they can offer your child.
- All children encouraged to dress up Friday for the Book Week Parade. Please reach out if you need any help with this.

🔔Weekly Goal:
Own the mistake: Admit when you make a mistake without blaming others.
Say a real sorry: Use clear words to apologise for how your actions affected someone else.
Fix the problem: Ask what you can do to make things right, then follow through.

🌷Way of Being This Week:
Accountable: Face problems honestly, rather than run away.
Caring: Put the feelings of others first and listen.
Ready to grow: See mistakes as opportunities to learn.

💬Affirmation:
“I am strong enough to admit when I am wrong. I can fix my mistakes and make things better.”

Let’s come together to celebrate stories, connect as a community, and continue to grow—happy Book Week, OVC!

Kind regards,

Danni Ellis
Assistant Principal
Head of Primary Years

Stage 1 SAASTA Students Get Active at Real Gym 💪🏋️

"Stage 1 SAASTA students recently visited , where owner Jye led an engaging mentor workshop focused on life advice, guidance and making positive choices for the future.

The students then put the advice into action with an energetic boxing session. The guys had a fantastic time, enjoyed plenty of laughs and challenges, and made the most of the experience.

It was a great opportunity for the students to learn, build confidence and get active in a positive environment. They had so much fun that they are already looking forward to returning to Real Gym next term!" 🙌

We were excited to host Basketball SA for two Girls Basketball Clinic sessions 🏀✨, with our Year 4–6 and Year 7–9 students getting involved and developing their skills.

The girls worked on dribbling, shooting and game play 🤾‍♀️, while building confidence, challenging themselves and enjoying the opportunity to play alongside other girls who share a love of basketball 💪💙.

It’s an exciting time for girls basketball at Ocean View, with our students now preparing to represent the College at the upcoming SAPSASA carnival, as well as taking on Seaton High School in a Middle School girls basketball game.

A huge thank you to Basketball SA 🙏 for supporting our girls and providing such a positive basketball experience. We can’t wait to see the girls continue to develop and represent Ocean View on the court! 👏
