Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre welcomed Stephen Kane Professor of Planetary Astrophysics at the University of California, Riverside.
Presenting ‘How to build a habitable world’.
It was great to see so many TRAC Members and visitors attending this event celebrating the kick off to National Science Week!

🌟 From studying distant worlds to having one named after him! 🪐
University of California, Riverside: Astrophysicist Stephen Kane has been honoured by the International Astronomical Union, The minor planet (711599) Kane, was named in his honour.
His research into Venus, planetary habitability and exoplanets continues to expand our understanding of worlds beyond Earth. ✨

🔭 Skies are looking clear for sky viewing tonight!
Come along to the Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre and make sure you bring your jackets and beanies!

We will have various optical viewing Telescopes and the 34 in Hewitt Camera looking at various Cosmic objects, Galaxies, Nebula, Clusters, Comets etc. Milky Way with lots of Globular Clusters.

Our Minerals/Fossils Group; will also be operating with microscope projections, highlighting minerals and fossils from the local region and finds from recent club excursions.

Free for Members and School Students

We had another fantastic turnout at Saturday’s Monthly Community Event at the Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre
Attendees enjoyed a presentation about the ‘Origin of Life’, thank you Peter Best for captivating the audience.
It was great to see so many TRAC members, visitors and guests—another successful and enjoyable night for our community.

National Science Week (15th to 23rd August) is also fast approaching, with events planned; and
Our next community event is Saturday 5th September,

🌖 57 years ago on this day..

From the Overseas Telecommunications Station at Moree, NSW.
This equipment relayed the Moon Landing Video Signals received by the Radio Dishes at Honeysuckle Creek (Canberra, ACT) & the Parkes Radio Dish.
The signal was transmitted to Moree where it was then relayed via Satellite link to NASA for broadcasting to the World on Monday 21 July 1969.

This NASA Satellite Communications Equipment is on display at our Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre.
