Now Boarding: The Next Generation of Aircraft Engineers 🛫🛠️
Australia’s MROs are facing a critical shortage of apprentice talent. Finding candidates who are job-ready, committed, and on the tools has never been more challenging.
That’s why we created the *AIR Program*: The Aeroskills Industry Readiness (AIR) is a 5-week, intensive pre-apprenticeship designed in collaboration with industry to deliver screened, hangar-ready apprentice candidates and trade assistants.
• Delivered on-site with real MROs
• Aligned to mapped AME skills
• No fluff—just practical exposure, technical preparation, and genuine employment pathways
If you're an MRO, AMO, or airline looking for reliable apprentice talent, this is your pipeline.

📍 Brisbane Careers & Employment Expo | Connecting with Aviation’s Next Generation
Last week, the Sigma Aerospace College & team had the privilege of engaging with more than 25,000 attendees at Queensland’s largest careers expo.
Across three days, we connected with over 300 aspiring engineers, educators, and industry supporters—sharing insight into the aircraft maintenance trade, licensing pathways, and our flagship AIR Program for trade-assistants and apprentice AMEs.
👏 A special thanks to Bruce for delivering a standout presentation on Saturday, capturing the attention of students and parents alike with practical advice on careers in aviation engineering.
Events like this aren’t just about recruitment—they’re about restoring confidence in young people navigating a complex and often unclear training landscape. For every apprentice who finds clarity, or every parent who finally sees a way forward, it’s a win for the whole industry.

Proud moments at Sigma Aerospace College as we celebrate the graduation of the inaugural AIR course cohort! 🛠️
Backed by and delivered in partnership with , the pilot program delivered outstanding outcomes — with 100% of graduates now placed into apprenticeships across industry.
We were thrilled to award Marc Fisher the AIR program’s top student award, including a professional Line Maintenance toolkit from Henchman Tool Control, and recognise Darcy McElwaine for excellence in technical aptitude with a full set of Part 66 licencing textbooks.
AIR is more than just a course — it’s a blueprint for Australia’s future aviation workforce. With the next course launching in August, we’re proud to be doing our part to rebuild a skilled, local aircraft engineering talent pipeline.
Thanks to our students, our incredible instructor Warren McLellan, and our industry partners who made it happen.

Big thanks to everyone who stopped by the McDermott Aviation & Sigma Aerospace College stand at the Sunshine Coast Future Careers Expo a few weeks ago!
With over 2,700 students and 119 exhibitors attending the event at University of the Sunshine Coast, we had incredible conversations about the future of aviation and aircraft maintenance careers.
Our AIR course instructor, Warren, was onsite answering questions about our new 5-week Aeroskills Industry Readiness (AIR) Program, designed to help students fast-track into trade assistant, apprentice, or flight line roles.

Another licence issued – and a huge win for persistence and the right training approach. 🛠️
Many excellent engineers face tremendous struggles passing licencing exams, particularly Maths and Physics.
Jake was an extremely competent aircraft maintenance engineer that had enormous hands-on proficiency and potential, yet when he approached Sigma, he was caught in an endless re-examination cycle with another provider. Understandably, his confidence was low, and it was hard to see the point of progression, and his employer, Heli Services, was understandably cautious.
We took a different approach—no repeat exam attempts until the foundational knowledge was locked in through structured MEA assessment assignments, supported learning, and regular coaching.
The result? Module 1: 88%. Module 2: 81%. Other exams and essays: confidently passed at high percentage. Licence issued.
Congrats Jake—and a huge thank you to our team for doing what they always do: supporting engineers the right way.
