🌿 WORLD DUGONG DAY – 28TH MAY 🌊

These gentle marine mammals are a vital part of Mother Earth’s seas and ecosystems, yet they are becoming increasingly vulnerable due to pollution, habitat destruction, boat strikes and the loss of seagrass meadows.

Australia is home to one of the largest Dugong populations in the world, with Traditional Owners co-existing and caring for Dugongs and sea Country for more than 60,000 years.

Healthy seas and thriving seagrass meadows are essential for their survival.

Today is a reminder for us all to yarn with our Future Old People about caring for Mother Earth, her seas, waterways and coastlines. Every piece of rubbish picked up, every conversation shared and every effort to protect our oceans helps these beautiful creatures continue to thrive for generations to come.
