πŸ“’ Announcement!
To our beautiful community:
First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years during cancer treatment and while I made the transition back into the professional space in January this year. So many cheering me on and I am grateful. πŸ™ I thoroughly enjoyed supporting families at The Nest Rocks and consulting privately this year.

However, over the course of the year, some challenges have arrived that call me to give more attention to my family. They need 100% of me right now. I also need to focus on my own health and well-being and I won't have the capacity to do so if I am working. My health and family will always be top priority.

Because of this, I have closed our Parent Programs and have no intention of opening again in the near future.

Instead, I am enjoying being a SAHM and doing what I can to ensure my kids have the best of me when they get home from school each day.

It's often hard to step back, but when you know the benefits for your family, it is actually an easy decision.

I will miss you all. Thank you for following this space and my journey. I wish you all the best. πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›

... "one passes from being nothing into being something. "

🩷 We must truly nurture the child, especially these first few years of life when development is so rapid. How great these milestones are while also constructing what will become the conscious child.

🩷 it's so easy to lose sight of how precious this period is when you are a sleep deprived parent, living in a busy world. But it's a crucial stage and it will be over before you know it. Don't miss it!

🩷 Lay healthy foundations by setting quality, uninterrupted time with your baby. Observe where he is now developmentally and where he is going. Then, modify the environment accordingly.

🩷 Treasure these sacred moments, and remember you are an integral part of who your child will become.

The last couple of weeks we have been focusing on Movement at The Nest . It's impossible for independence to grow without it, yet we see it constricted so much by modern baby equipment such as; swings, playpens, bouncy seats, high chairs and strollers.

It's not that these items have no place. For example, a colicky baby certainly benefits from being in an upright position on a bouncy seat when uncomfortable. However, when these become the norm and the first go-to, it sets a habit, and the child's world to explore gets smaller and smaller.

Set up a safe space, even if it's just a bedroom or cornered off area of the house, where your baby can move freely. It might be as simple as a movement mat and mirror for a newborn or a place with a low shelf ottoman to practice pulling up with a few toys.

Children must practice repeatedly to master new skills. Give them the space, opportunities, and time to do so.

While I couldn't work or commit to anything full time while on cancer treatment, once stable, I was fortunate to be able to volunteer for my local as a leader. It allowed me to give back to an organisation that gave to me as a child. It also provided me with purpose and more time to spend with my daughter.

I shared my cancer journey with the amazing young girls in our unit. It was important to me that they saw another side of cancer...people LIVING with it and THRIVING. It's not always a death sentence and I wanted them to see a new perspective.

I took full advantage of my new lease on life. The girls helped me overcome my fear of heights and got me rock climbing. I have since joined a club. I enjoy it so much!

Cancer does not have to be the end for everyone. There are reasons for hope. Gene profiling gave me that hope by pointing me in the right direction for precision treatment specific to my tumour gene mutations.

Two weeks of term left at The Nest and our little ones have changed so much developmentally. With more bubs sitting up and moving, they really begin to interact with one another.

I am delighted to provide a safe space for these relationships to form. Unlike typical playgroups, The Nest is a peaceful environment where we are in tune with the babies as they interact in the prepared space. Observations are important to ensure the environment suits each babies' developmental and emotional needs. At the same time, adult learning occurs.

Those foundations of being a Montessori Child are very evident while we watch our children grow into adolescence. It's one thing to know your child is capable, but another to TRUST their capabilities.

These adolescent years are where they step up to a whole new level and can do the majority of tasks unsupervised. Remember, however, that teens and teens still need clear instructions and guidelines. For example, window washing inside our home is much more basic than outside. We back the bush and spider webs form blankets over the windows in time. Those need to first be cleared out before we wash. Otherwise, it is a sticky mess.

This is certainly not a time for hovering. If you trust them, leave them to it. This sends a strong message that you view them as a responsible individual. πŸ‘
