“your body is the least impressive thing about you”

I came across this in a post recently from an able-bodied woman.

I couldn’t disagree more.

It’s easier to dismiss the body when you already exist in one that aligns with the standard.

When your body is accepted, validated, and moves through the world with ease.

For those who don’t experience full movement, full sensation, or ease and function within their body, the relationship to it carries a completely different weight.

And to minimise the body is to overlook just how meaningful, complex, and powerful that experience really is.

The human body is incredible.

The way it grows, adapts, and moves.

The way it builds strength, not just physically, but from the inside out.

It carries sensations, emotions, memories, and experiences.

It processes so much more than we ever give it credit for.

When I think about my body, I think about everything it has done for me.

The strength built over time.

The way it has carried me through years of change, challenge, growth, and feeling.

To reduce the body to “the least impressive thing” feels so dismissive of everything it truly is and does.

Your body is not just part of you, it is the very thing that allows you to experience life at all.

And that is pretty incredible.

There’s a special type of self love that comes from advocating for your child.

Every time you protect them, you confront what you didn’t have.

Every time you choose patience, kindness, or safety, you rewrite your own story.

You give them what you needed and in doing so you start giving it to yourself.

Theres grief.

Theres growth.

But it’s real.

It heals something in you.

The parts that deserve the same care.

The same protection.

The same love.

Keep going.

People talk about strength like it’s a destination.

Like one day you’ll arrive and suddenly be strong.

It’s easy to look at these two photos and think that’s what happened here.

Before vs after.

Weak vs strong.

But it’s not.

I was always strong.

Building muscle just made it visible.

Strength isn’t something you earn later.

You already have it.

I was strong then.

I’m strong now.

The difference?

I wanted my body to be a reflection of the strength I felt inside.

I learnt how to build muscle.

Properly.

Training.
Structure.
Nutrition.
Recovery.

Tools.
Time.
Progression.

It took longer than I expected.

Way longer than I wanted.

And this?

Still isn’t my final form.

Get outside.

Live.

Move your body.

Be with people.

Not profiles.

Stop trading your life for a feed that never ends.

You weren’t meant to watch everything.

You were meant to feel something.

A screen can show you the ocean.

It can’t give you the salt, the sun or the sand.

We often get lost in looking forward.

Striving to live in a future that hasn’t even arrived.

This urge to always be somewhere else.

Anywhere but here.

The thing is, we will never be in these moments again.

Life isn’t happening somewhere ahead.

It’s happening now.

If you spent more time in the now, would you breathe deeper?

Exhale longer?

Who would you really be in that moment?

Would you feel your own life instead of outrunning it?

Maybe the real question isn’t who you’d be in the moment but what life you’ve been missing while waiting for a “better” one.

I’d love to know what part of this hit you hardest?

I didn’t expect this image to hold the weight that it did.

This version of me, at 13 years old.

Of what was.

What had been before.

What was still to come.

Of what my story represents.

Because today, at 40 years old, I am the person I needed back then.

To the body that has carried me.

That built strength from the inside out.

I love you.

It’s easy to create different versions of ourselves for others… but what happens when we start losing sight of who we truly are?

Generations of us were raised with one message: stay small.

Smile.

Be pretty.

Don’t take up space.

I was told that I needed to be “softer” so boys would like me more.

Not as strong.

Not as competitive.

Not as... me.

So I did it. I held myself back.

I hid my strength and played small. Because we were taught that being liked by strangers mattered more than being true to who we were.

The belief that you are “too much” or “not enough.”

It’s taught.

And it’s a lie.

You weren’t made to stay small.

You were made to show up fully, exactly as you are.
