Let's talk client repellant.

A sometimes forgotten way of wooing your ideal customer is through words. But the opposite of wooing is repelling and unfortunately sometimes this happens (with the biggest culprit being the tone of words).

Are your words sweet and enticing? Do they draw in your ideal customer/client or are they more like client repellant?

When we're happy or sad our tone changes and when it comes to our businesses, different messages require different tones BUT tone can be tricky to convey.

The founder is Sarah and she's a very skilled product photographer. I could gush all day about how much I love her and her kind heart towards both me and her clients.

The subject of a recent enquiry I received read, 'I suck at writing'.
▪️
I see it regularly.
▪️
The thing is, the women who write these words (in most cases) are usually very good writers.
▪️
So why would they need a copywriter? And why would they approach me?
▪️
Underneath requests for help I mostly find 👇
⭐They don't feel comfortable writing words about themselves or their business.
⭐They feel too close to their business and want an outside viewpoint.
⭐ They don't know how to write words that engage, persuade, invite and sell.
⭐ The process of writing takes them a long time and their time is better spent elsewhere in their business.
⭐ Years of writing essays, reports and corporate emails means the language they use sounds too formal or rigid and doesn't speak to the target market.

So if you often think your writing sucks I'm 99% sure it doesn't.

Why does it look easy when it's not?

If you've just launched a business it probably took alot of courage to make the leap to business owner.

So you've launched and now you feel invisible to your target market. Maybe you're a mix of frustrated and mystified as to why your business hasn't just taken off......And then you find yourself beginning to feel like a fake, like you'll never make it, like you'll have to shut your new business.

You're probably worried and embarrassed at the thought of being a failure.

STOP right there. You're not a failure. No matter what happens you are never a failure.

Sure, the business launch steps are easy enough. In fact many parts to setting up a business are simple to implement and very achievable BUT it isn't ALL easy and putting your heart and mental energy into every step definitely chews up a whole lot of energy.

The meaning behind the word WINNOW

To winnow is an old farming term and was part of the process of separating unwanted husks from grains. You may have heard people talk about winnowing in the process of making chocolate too (I'm looking at you 😋🍫)

So how does winnowing apply to words?

▪︎Sorting or separating something.
▪︎Making a list of possible choices smaller by eliminating less desirable choices.

It's what I do with words. I sift through them, separate the valuable gems and use only the good stuff for you.

Short answer, yes you do.

Even if it's not perfect, or not exactly how you imagined it would look, having a website builds credibility and allows people to get to know more about your business.

In the first 6 months of running my business I didn't have a website (I underestimated just how difficult it would be to launch a website whilst caring for my 1 and 3 year old girls).

As soon as I launched the Word Winnow website my business found momentum.

My husband is a plumber and so often his clients say to him, 'Oh I'm so happy I now have a plumber I can call anytime.'

We all know it takes time to find Plumbers, Electricians, Painters, Landscapers, Builders etc who:

✅ Understand your needs
✅ Provide solutions to your problems
✅ Deliver on the brief
✅ Clean up afterwards leaving everything looking finished and amazing.

Once you find a great tradie you keep their contact details because you've built a tradie/ customer relationship and it's a headache to try and find another one 🤕
