How lucky are we? One of our amazing parents visited the service today to share in a pumpkin carving experience! Many of the children have been excited by the idea of Halloween, so this was a great way to celebrate.

MEET JOSIE - DIRECTOR OF MY PLAYHOUSE LANE COVE

"I have worked in the industry for 13 years and through that time, I have been blessed to work in leadership positions across the Northern beaches and up the North Coast.

I am passionate about creating a nurturing environment that fosters the children's creativity, uniqueness and love for learning, all whilst supporting children to be their most confident and authentic self!

I was drawn to My Playhouse because of its beautiful values of creating a space that is a home away from home, that has high quality care and a strong commitment to children's safety and wellbeing. The My Playhouse philosophy, deeply rooted in the Pickler Approach, resonates with me- developed by Dr. Emmi Pikler that emphasises respect, free movement, and a peaceful relationship between caregiver and child.

I'm so excited to be a part of this amazing community as Director.

At this time of the year, many families start thinking about "school readiness skills" such as reading and writing.

Did you know that children need to learn foundations for these skills in early childhood - they don't actually need to be taught to read or write before school (although some will naturally be curious and we will always support them!)

In play, in our environments, children have opportunities to develop literacy skills through:
💜 Conversations with educators and peers
💜 Sharing in reading books
💜 Storytelling
💜 Exposure to letters and words
💜 Seeing educators writing and using letters and words (modelling)

We love ensuring that children have access to a variety of materials for creating and exploring! If you have any bits and pieces that would be great for our art studio - we'd welcome them with open arms. Some favourites include:
⭐ Clean lids (from things like milk bottles or yoghurt pouches)
⭐ Fabric scraps
⭐ Paper towel cardboard tubes (not toilet rolls though please!)
⭐ Unwanted craft supplies (bits of wool, ribbon, buttons etc)

Sending your unwanted bits and pieces is a great way to support our sustainability efforts and creativity!

Play is central to what we do at My Playhouse Lane Cove. We know that children need long, uninterrupted blocks of time for play, that they benefit from being able to freely explore, create, wonder and connect through play.
