Did you know today is World Edible Insect Day?
It’s a day to celebrate the insect protein industry and the incredible innovations shaping our future food systems. Insects aren’t just about food — they play a vital role in sustainability, from managing food waste and producing fertilisers, to supporting animal and pet feed, bioplastics, and even pharmaceuticals.
To mark the day, why not inspire the next generation of food scientists?
Head to the AIFST Online Store to order “Eating Bugs for the Planet” — the first food science–themed title in the Aussie STEM Stars series. Featuring Skye Blackburn-Lang and her mission to change the world with edible insects, it’s perfect for curious kids aged 9–13.

Let’s take this opportunity to spark conversations about insects and their role in building more sustainable food systems.
