Most people are asking the wrong question.

“Is Pilates enough?”

Enough for what?

Because Pilates can absolutely:
✔ Build strength
✔ Improve mobility
✔ Support rehab
✔ Increase body awareness

But if your goal is:
– Max muscle mass
– Fat loss
– Peak performance

You probably need more than just Pilates.

And that’s not a weakness of Pilates.
It’s just understanding what each tool is for.

Pilates isn’t the whole system.

It’s the foundation that makes everything else work better.

What’s your take? Is Pilates enough?

Knee stretch might look like a plank, but it is not quite the same thing.

The carriage needs to be slightly further out, which brings the shoulders into more flexion and gives the knees more room to move.

That extra space matters.

If the setup is too plank-like, the range gets restricted and the exercise can lose its purpose.

I’ve never had a client say “I love single-leg calf raises.”
Funny how the things we avoid… are usually the ones we need most. 😜

Every instructor has them… whether you realise it or not.

Your “hero phrases.”

The cues you come back to again and again.

Mine?

“Do it again.”
“Keep going.”
“There you go.”

What’s one cue you say in every single class?

We live in a culture of:

more reps
more springs
more intensity
more depth

But after 16 years of teaching Pilates, I’ve realised something:

Not every client needs to go deeper.
Not every body needs more load.
And sometimes pulling back is actually the more advanced choice.

Real body awareness isn’t just knowing when to push harder.
It’s knowing when to pause, modify, adjust, and move with intention.

Sometimes doing less is the advancement.

The goal isn’t to survive the workout.
The goal is to move well enough that you can keep moving for life.

Lunges on the Reformer don’t have to be basic.

Here are 3 lunge variations every Pilates class instructor should know:
• 90/90 lunge for quad length and control
• Lunge with rotation for multi-plane strength
• Lunge + cat-cow to layer in spinal mobility

Same exercise. But unique outcomes.

Which one are you adding to your classes? 🤩

The Pilates police are loud right now.

But here’s the truth:

No one owns Pilates.
No one decides what’s “real” Pilates.

Focus on your clients.
Do your job well.
Let people enjoy it.

More movement.
Less ego.

If your clients are learning Teaser for the first time, don’t rush it.

Grab a ring.
Break down the shape.
Build the awareness first.

This has never failed me.
