‘Psychosocial’ examines people in the context of combined psychological factors and the social environment. Psychosocial factors can impact people’s physical and mental wellness and their ability to function effectively in society or the workplace.
Psychosocial factors are commonly called ‘work-related factors’. Work health safety (WHS) does not just cover physical risk. What looks to be a safe work environment, such as an office, may be unsafe due to psychosocial risk factors, which need to be considered and remediated if the assessed risk is unacceptably high.
A just-issued IIA-Australia Factsheet, ‘Psychosocial Risks’, has attracted interest from internal audit and risk management practitioners.
