New ABCs

When I work with students and teachers around the world to focus on each student's future, how they might work with others, and how they can make their dreams a reality, the mood shifts. The room's energy goes from bleak conformity to empowered enthusiasm. The simple act of drawing a line from where they are now as individuals to where they can be as members of a much bigger picture is enough to change the physical and mental stature of everyone in the room. A sense of spirited adventure engulfs everyone until the day is done. The school leadership and classroom teachers have been prepped for how to continue the focus forward into the future of everything they do. It takes trust all around. Teacher to teacher, student to teacher, student to student, and the school leadership to pave the way forward without faltering. I'm launching a new era in my devotion to supporting educators to achieve a once dreamt of positive impact on all students' lives. As teachers, there is a constant battle between being EFFICIENT.... getting through the day, looking after student welfare and traffic flow, and swimming through the administrivia and scholastic directives that flood in all day, AND being EFFECTIVE from an educational perspective.... being true to the reason we got into teaching which is usually to have a decent impact on helping students do some good in the world and for themselves. Is effectiveness and impact simply about a different mindset? A whole new schooling system? Revolutionary leaders to empower every teacher and student? Or maybe it's a slightly evolved way to approach every topic to maximise the student involvement and drive which bridges the gap between what we are required to teach them and what they need to fulfill their hopes and dreams for life? I've asked high school teachers all around the world this one simple question... "Do you know all your student's hopes and dreams?" So far all I get is a look of embarrassment and an interested silence. We all know that the drive to do anything comes from seeing a reward that means something to us. The more emotive the reward, the greater the drive to be responsible for the effort, engagement, and enthusiasm needed to achieve that reward. Exam results and assessment marks are merely proxy measures to statistically satiate administrative districts and government agencies. I want to help you revolutionise your classroom and teaching style to create self-driven students who are ready for the real world... a world that they will shape.
