Where do you see yourself in ten years?

For many young people, that question can feel impossible to answer without the right support.

In this conversation, one of our students opens up about their ambitions, their biggest inspirations, and the impact that encouragement can have on a life.

🌱 Small opportunities today can create big possibilities tomorrow.

Every student who reaches their potential does so because someone showed up for them. Kathleen had the pleasure of presenting alongside The Brainary at EduTech this week, a reminder of why community and collaboration in education matters so much. 💚

This World Environment Day, we reflect on how a sustainable tomorrow depends on the environment we create today. This years theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future" aligns with our mission to empower young Australians experiencing disadvantage by providing them with the support they need to thrive. True sustainability means investing in our earth and our youth to lead the way into our bright future.

This week we're celebrating the people who show up for A Start in Life not because they have to, but because they believe in what we do.

Our volunteers give something no budget can buy: their time, their care, and their genuine investment in the young people we support. They sit across from students who are struggling and make them feel seen. That matters more than most people know.

To every volunteer who has walked alongside a student this year: thank you. You are a vital part of what makes this organisation work.
Happy National Volunteer Week. 🌿

Blair's rental house was condemned mid-exams.
No running water. No way out yet. So every morning she drove to the local pool, showered, and drove back. Then she sat down and studied.
She is training to become a vet. One of the most demanding degrees in the country. And she is doing it through the kind of circumstances that would stop most people cold.
Blair didn't stop. She just found another way. She always does.
We are proud to be in her corner, and so grateful to everyone whose support makes that possible.

What a day. 🎓✨

On Saturday we celebrated some of the most determined young people at our Annual Prize Giving Ceremony. Students who have faced real barriers to get where they are. Families who have sacrificed more than most of us will know. And a room full of people who believe education changes lives.

Swipe through for just a glimpse of the day, the full album can be found on our website: https://www.astartinlife.org.au/student-prize-giving-2026/

What does a learning environment built with real intention look like? Last month, we visited the new Impact Hub at Marsden Park Anglican College alongside Learning Environments Nsw and the students said it best themselves.

Lachlan's mum served in the Australian Air Force. She lost the use of her legs and kept going anyway.
His sister left school to become a full-time carer. His little brother needs support around the clock.
And Lachlan? He opened his textbooks. Every single day.
He is now studying radiation therapy, working towards a career helping the kinds of families who never quite get the care they need. Families like his. Communities like his.
That is not ambition for ambition's sake. That is a young man who watched his family give everything, and decided the best thing he could do was become someone who gives back.
We are so proud to be part of his story.

Lachlan wants to be a doctor. Not just for himself for, his community.
