๐ฆ๐บ NEW AUSTRALIAN VISA CHANGES โ WHAT DO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS NEED TO KNOW? ๐
The Australian Government has announced a new set of migration changes covering who can arrive, stay and leave Australia.
For international students, some of the key changes include:
๐ Further study: Further study after completing a course will generally need to be at a higher qualification level, while genuine course transfers and legitimate extensions can still be allowed.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง Family members: New student and graduate visa applicants will generally no longer be able to automatically bring family members, with exceptions including certain countries and courses such as PhDs.
โ๏ธ Visitor visas: Future visitor visas will include a *No Further Stay* condition, meaning they generally cannot be used as a pathway to apply for another visa while in Australia.
๐จ Skilled migration: Changes to the points test will give certain housing construction trades qualification points equivalent to university qualifications. Priority processing will also focus on sectors including construction, healthcare, teaching, agriculture, aquaculture/fishing and resources.
๐ Working Holiday: Years 2 and 3 will move to a ballot system, with proposed limits of 45,000 places for year two and 5,000 for year three. Regional work requirements remain.
โ ๏ธ Important: These changes are being progressively implemented, and some measures require further legislative or administrative steps. The rules can also depend on your visa, nationality and individual circumstances.
๐ Always check the official information before making visa decisions.
