Under the Sea Sensory Exploration ๐ ๐
The Caterpillars enjoyed exploring our new Under the Sea water sensory mats. With many new babies joining our room, these resources provide wonderful opportunities for sensory discovery and development.
The babies used their arms to prop themselves up during tummy time, strengthening their core muscles, upper body, and neck control. They were full of smiles as they pressed, touched, and watched the colourful sea creatures move beneath their hands.
This engaging experience supported gross motor development, sensory processing, and cognitive learning while encouraging curiosity, exploration, and confidence through play. The children remained engaged and delighted in discovering the different textures, colours, and movements within the mats. ๐๐๐

โ๏ธ Embracing Outdoor Play This Winter! โ๏ธ
At Green Garden Childcare Penrith, we believe that outdoor play is important all year roundโincluding during the cooler winter months!
Spending time outdoors provides children with opportunities to build their gross motor skills, develop resilience, explore nature, and engage in meaningful learning experiences. Whether they are running, climbing, investigating seasonal changes, or simply enjoying fresh air, outdoor play supports children's physical health, wellbeing, and confidence.
With appropriate clothing, our children continue to enjoy rich outdoor learning experiences every day. ๐ฟ๐

Let's Count! โโ๏ธโโ
Today, the Butterflies participated in a hands-on numeracy experience using number cards and pegs. The children explored number recognition and counting by matching the correct number of pegs to each numeral. As they counted aloud and carefully attached the pegs, they demonstrated increasing confidence in one-to-one correspondence and early mathematical thinking.
This experience also supported the development of fine motor skills, hand strength, coordination, and concentration. The children showed persistence as they counted, checked their work, and shared their strategies with peers and educators. Through positive encouragement and guidance, educators extended children's understanding of numbers while fostering confidence, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude towards learning mathematics.

Our babies have been enjoying tummy time experiences throughout the day. Tummy time helps strengthen their neck, shoulder, arm and core muscles, supporting important developmental milestones such as rolling, sitting and crawling. It also promotes sensory exploration, body awareness and confidence as babies learn to move and interact with their environment.

The Caterpillars have been loving exploring the DJ table! The children eagerly interacted with the buttons, lights, and sounds, showing excitement, curiosity, and engagement throughout the play. Smiles, laughter, and dancing filled the room as the children explored the different sounds they could create.
This experience supported the childrenโs sensory development as they explored different sounds, lights, textures, and cause-and-effect relationships through hands-on play. As they pressed buttons, turned controls, and moved their bodies to the music, they were strengthening their fine and gross motor skills, coordination, and body awareness.
The experience also encouraged confidence, creativity, and self-expression through music and movement, while supporting communication and social development through shared interactions with educators and peers. Experiences like this help children build curiosity, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of how their actions can create different outcomes.

To support childrenโs participation in group experiences and develop fine motor skills, educators provided a cutting and pasting activity. The child eagerly joined the experience, exploring how to use scissors while focusing on hand movements and coordination. With educator guidance and encouragement, they practised cutting and pasted the pieces onto paper, remaining engaged throughout the activity.

We encourage children to recognise the letters in their name and practise forming them through play-based learning experiences. This supports early literacy, fine motor development, handโeye coordination and confidence as children begin to understand that print carries meaning.
Each stage of the writing process holds different developmental milestones and skills. As children grow, they move from recognising symbols and marks, to scribbling, drawing shapes, identifying letters, writing their name, and eventually forming words and sentences. These stages support childrenโs fine motor development, literacy skills, confidence, communication, and understanding that writing has meaning and purpose.
