To every mum reading this šŸ’›

At MYM, we have the privilege of working with some incredible kids. And behind so many of them is a mum showing up relentlessly, day after day, often on an empty cup.

As a mum myself, I know it doesn’t stop. Ever.
The lunchboxes, school emails, sidelines in the cold, midnight googling, the advocating, the worrying, and the holding it all together.

You raise them as humans first. As students, athletes, artists, friends, second. You teach them to be kind, to keep going, to believe in themselves… even on the days you’re quietly questioning whether you’re doing any of this right. (Just so you know, you are!)

So today, Happy Mother’s Day. Thank you for the love you pour out, again and again.

We want to gently acknowledge that today isn’t a happy day for everyone. For the mums missing a child. For the women longing to be mums. For those grieving their own mum. For the families where a dad, grandparent, aunty or stepmum has stepped into that role, we see you too. šŸ¤

Wherever today finds you, we’re sending you so much love.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

And this year, I want to start with the numbers, because sometimes we need to see the scale of what's happening before we can really respond to it.

Nearly half of all young Australians are currently experiencing high or very high levels of psychological distress.
Half.
That's not a small group on the edges. That's the child sitting next to yours in class. That's the teenager who seems fine at dinner. That's the primary schooler who says their tummy hurts every Monday morning.

The data is telling us something important, and I think we owe it to our kids to listen.

Swipe through for 9 statistics about youth mental health in Australia right now. Some of them will surprise you. Some of them might stop you in your tracks.

And then I want to leave you with this.
You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to keep showing up.

This month, I'll be sharing signs to look out for, ways to open the conversation, and how to support the young person in your life, even when you're not sure you're getting it right.

Follow along. Save this post. Share it with someone who needs to see it.

Because awareness is where change begins. šŸ’š

From being encouraged to drop the subject at the end of Year 11 as he wasn’t performing, to now coming 7th in the year in Assessment Task 2! šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

While we helped with understanding content, our focus was on developing sustainable structures for learning - regular retrieval practice, writing structure, breaking down content and HSC practice style questions! And none of it involved excessive hours of study, or placing pressure on the student.

So proud of him and what he has achieved!

I didn't start Mentoring Young Minds to run a tutoring service.

I started it because of the kids I couldn't stop thinking about after the school day ended. The ones sitting quietly at the back — not because they didn't care, but because somewhere along the way, they'd started believing that trying wasn't worth it anymore. That they weren't worth it anymore.

I've taught long enough to know that look. And I've seen what happens when no one catches it in time.

That stayed with me. It still does.

This business was built for those kids. The ones who need someone genuinely in their corner, not just to fill gaps in their learning, but to remind them of who they actually are. Capable. Worthy. Full of potential that hasn't had the right conditions to grow yet.

Because when a child feels truly seen, supported and understood? Everything shifts. Their results, their voice, their willingness to back themselves. I've watched it happen time and time again. And there is nothing in this world like witnessing a child step into their own belief.

That's what Mentoring Young Minds is built on. That's what gets me up every single morning.

And that will never, ever change. šŸ’š

To my child, at the end of Term 1. šŸ¤

This one's for every parent who saw their kid struggle this term, and every child who kept going anyway.

Save this. Show your child. Let them know you noticed.

Because sometimes the most important thing we can say isn't "well done on your results"... it's "I see your effort, and I am so proud of who you are."

Tag a parent who needs to hear this today. šŸ’›

That little girl in the photo? She had perfect attendance, tidy handwriting, and a smile ready for every school photo.

She also spent years quietly wondering if she was smart enough. Good enough.

If your child looks fine on the outside but you can sense something else going on underneath, this one's for you.

Because the kids who hold it together on the surface are often the ones carrying the most.

At Mentoring Young Minds, we go beyond the grade. We help students feel genuinely capable and confident in who they are, not just what they produce.

If that sounds like what your child needs, I'd love to chat.

April is Autism Awareness Month
..and awareness is so important to our understanding.

It means understanding why a child might shut down in a noisy classroom, why routine matters so deeply, why friendships may be difficult and why the right support can genuinely change a young person's life.

Whether you're a teacher, a parent, or someone who loves an autistic child, I hope this helps. šŸ’› Know that we see you, and your child.

Save this, share it, and let's make learning more accessible for all children with autism.

Not every kid loves the school holidays - and that’s okay! šŸ’› here are a few things they might be feeling, and some gentle ways to support them over the coming weeks.

Did you know your child’s wellbeing and their academic performance are deeply connected?

When our kids are stressed, overwhelmed or running on empty, their brain literally cannot learn at full capacity. It’s not a lack of effort or ability. It’s biology.

But here’s the beautiful flip side: when a child feels safe, rested, nourished and truly supported, their brain opens up. They focus better, retain more, and show up with the confidence to keep trying even when things get hard.

As parents, you’re already doing so much. The school lunches, the late homework nights, the pep talks before big tests. You see it all.

This carousel breaks down the four pillars of student - wellbeing, sleep, movement, nutrition and connection - and what the research says about each one. Plus a few small, practical shifts you can try at home this week.

Save this post and share it with a parent in your life who might need a reminder that looking after the whole child is just as important as the study timetable.

We’re always here if you’d like to chat about how we support not just your child’s learning, but their confidence, mindset and love of learning too.

Tell us in the comments, which of the 4 pillars do you think makes the biggest difference for your child?
