Our job as grassroots coaches isn't to win games.

It's to help kids fall in love with the game and give every player the chance to grow.

So here's two questions...
1. Do kids enjoy sitting on the sideline?
2. Do kids improve their skills or understanding of the game while they're on the sideline?

Probably not.

That's why giving every player fair game time matters.

The challenge is that it's not always easy.

Volunteer coaches are already giving up evenings, weekends and family time. Once squad sizes get bigger, substitutions become surprisingly hard to manage fairly. Most coaches want to do the right thing, they're just juggling a lot.

Here in Australia, the season is starting to wind down and presentation day is creeping up, so a question for the coaches: end-of-season awards. Does every kid get one, or do they earn it?

And if you do hand them out, what actually goes on the trophy (or certificate/award at some clubs)? "Best player," or something more specific?

Genuinely curious where everyone lands, because this one often splits a room.
