As much as I am discovering what my childrens' interests are, my children are learning about me and my skills... skills they didn't know I had.
Before I was "mum". I was Gayle - a part-time graphic designer. I ran a small business handcrafting wedding invitations and I was contracted to design year books for high schools.
My son has started a new project putting together an e-magazine for kids.
Every week I teach my son a new skill in Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop... he just loves the idea that he is using "real-life" programs.

As promised...
"If you can write out the recipe, we can bake the cake".

I finally found a way to motivate my 7 year old daughter to write!
She watched a kids YouTube video the other day on how to bake a cake.
"Mum, can we bake this cake?"
"If you write out the recipe for it, we can bake the cake," I tell her.
Over three days I guided her in writing out the recipe.
It was a great little project on procedural writing. We learnt about the structure of a recipe, cooking abbreviations, units of measurement, time, temperature, verbs and technical 'cooking' language.
What encourages your children to write? Please comment below, I would love to hear.

One of the biggest blessings about homeschooling is that I am getting to know my kids on a deeper level. I love hearing about their interests, what lights them up, what they wonder about and the questions they ask, what ideas they come up with and the experiences they want to have.
For my son (9yrs) it's all about playing the keyboard, coding a game, volcanoes and a succulent arrangement.
For my daughter (6yrs) it's all about pollinator gardens, making ice cream and scrapbooking a journal.
For my toddler (2yrs) it's all about cutting & gluing, water & bubbles and counting.
What are your children interested in?

Coding, gaming, minecraft, mods... does this sound like your child?
I found this book in my local Kmart and it cost less than my takeaway coffee and my son loves it!
