Staying cool on a hot day

At Sydenham, we follow nutritional guidelines and the healthy achievement program.

To assist with staying cool during todays hot weather, we have made banana ice creams and strawberry frozen yoghurt.

Banana ice creams are simply, sliced banana insert your stick and place in the freezer on baking paper until ready to eat.

Our strawberry frozen yoghurt is made from blending strawberries with natural yoghurt and freezing.

Simple, Delicious, healthy & made from items most of us already have.

As always, remember to stay hydrated, on these hot summer days.

Did you know…..awareness & safety around water is essential at all times , especially in Australia , where we are surrounded by water .

At Mayfield Early Education Sydenham, our 3-5 yr olds have the opportunity to participate in weekly swimming lessons.

Parent feedback: Elijah has previously attended private swimming lessons, however, he didn’t enjoy going.

Since starting at Mayfield, he has grown more confident in the water and has enjoyed learning alongside his friends.-Chelsea

Since Mayfield introduced swimming lessons, Leo has been attending and we honestly haven’t looked back, his confidence in the water has grown so much, as a parent it has taken a weight off my shoulders, being able to fit lessons in without the stress of after hours commitments has made such a difference -Rosie

We have seen such confidence from Sebastian when it comes to swimming, he also attends swimming lessons on the weekends, his teacher has said the same, and he’s had an increase in awareness and ability to follow instructions

Another great learning opportunity is being road safe, I have noticed Seb has more awareness when it comes to road safety, as he has the opportunity with walking to the swimming pool.

I highly recommend this opportunity for the children to participate in a great program- Samantha.

3K, Hairdresser Role Play
Our little stylists have been busy this week in our Hairdresser Role-Play Studio! 💇✨

With brushes, mirrors, and appointment cards, the children chatted, negotiated roles, and used lots of new vocabulary, wonderful pre-literacy learning happening through play. ❤️📚

Jack and the Beanstalk Story Play
Exploring the magic of Jack and the Beanstalk! 🌱📖
The children have been retelling the story and acting out their favourite parts.
Using imaginative play Jack, and his beanstalk adventure have been brought to life, a fun way to grow storytelling skills and early literacy.

As the wonder of Christmas gets closer the children have been fully immersed in collaborative play.
Conversations are filled with excitement about the holiday season sharing stories about Christmas decorations seen in shopping centres and at home. Following the children’s conversations, we have begun decorating our room together, choosing ornaments, arranging materials, and helping transform our learning space into a festive and welcoming place.

They are also working on their end-of-year take-home gifts, with this week’s focus on creating personalised calendars for 2026. Friends have been sitting together, sharing ideas, drawing, and adding their own creative touches to each page. It has been wonderful watching them collaborate, express themselves, and take pride in the special gifts they’re preparing.

National Recycling Week

During Recycling Week, our little eco-warriors got hands-on with sustainability, transforming recycled materials into masterpieces! They built community cities, crafted adorable turtles from egg cartons, and created a stunning paper mache Earth. The kids even designed their own recycled paper costumes and strutted their stuff down the ramp, showcasing their creativity to the world!

Nursey News 🐴

Through the Derby Day Hat Making activity, the children developed their creativity and self-expression by designing their own hats. They practiced fine motor skills while applying glue and carefully sticking flowers and leaves. The experience also encouraged sensory exploration as they felt the different textures of natural materials. Working alongside their peers supported social interaction, sharing, and communication skills.

Toddler Room News 🌟

To celebrate Melbourne Cup, we decided to make some natural hats using materials that we found outside. such as; leaves, twigs and flowers. We used old cardboard packaging to make the base of the hats.
The children enjoyed creating their own hats and loved being able to pick out the martials themselves.

Second activity
This week, we introduced a construction-themed sensory tub designed to encourage imaginative play and fine motor development. The tub featured a sand and rock base, along with printed construction vehicles that children could mix and match. The activity held their attention for an extended period, as they engaged in digging, pushing, and exploring the materials while developing their creativity and coordination
