Our Year 7 to Year 10 students enjoyed an exciting week of scientific exploration during Science Week.

Activities included testing the age-old question, "Does bread land butter-side up?", competing in dry ice hockey, and investigating buoyancy by seeing how many marbles could be floated before a vessel sank.

Students also explored the invisible world of microbes, using UV technology to track how germs spread and better understand the importance of effective hygiene practices.

Each week, our Upper School Education Support students visit Swan View Primary to mentor pre-primary students as part of their Sport Leadership program.

Through planning and leading activities, our students develop valuable skills in communication, negotiation, strategy and teamwork to help prepare them for the workplace and life beyond school.

The pre-primary students think our mentors are superheroes, and we could not agree more!

On Saturday, a group of our students along with Mr Serafini and Ms Hutton headed to Pixel Expo for an exciting opportunity to explore the world of independent game development and discover where a passion for gaming can lead.

Six students from Years 9 to 12 had the chance to interview some of Perth’s emerging independent game developers about their upcoming projects and experiences in the industry.

Students also got hands-on with demonstrations of upcoming video games and tabletop games, while gaining valuable insight into the skills, study options and career pathways available in game development.

It was a fantastic opportunity to go beyond simply playing games and learn more about the creativity, technology, design and teamwork that goes into bringing them to life.

The Maali Bakers Academy is an initiative for our Polly Farmer Foundation Follow the Dream Program students. Students who attend tutoring at least twice a week are invited to participate in the Academy on Thursday afternoons with Ms Manning, where they develop their baking skills, explore native ingredients and prepare food for special community events.

And this week Maali Bakers were run off their feet this week, trialling a brand-new cupcake recipe ahead of their next catering event, an Elders Afternoon Tea with the Cultural Studies Program at Swan View Primary.

The bakers discovered a very different way to make cupcakes and experimented with strawberry gum leaves as a flavouring. Who knew gum leaves could create such an incredible flavour?

After back to back draws with Emmanuel Christian Community School and Shenton College, our Junior boys got their maiden win on Tuesday with the game ending 4-3 against Ballajura Community College. The boys were ecstatic and showed extraordinary effort. Congratulations to Jett Cassettai for scoring twice with Kofi Anning and Nayte Mazurak also getting on the scoresheet. The whole team should be commended for their efforts and for working tirelessly until the end.

Last week, our Japanese Teacher Mr Townsend, kindly stayed back after school to welcome two visiting students from Tokyo, Japan, who were taking part in an exchange program with one of our feeder primary schools, Greenmount Primary School.

Mr Townsend spoke with the students about high school life in Australia and answered their thoughtful questions. Everyone also enjoyed viewing the wonderful collection of Japanese pop art displayed throughout the classroom.

Thank you, Mr Townsend, for making our visitors feel so welcome. The willingness of our staff to go above and beyond is one of the many reasons Swan View Senior High School is so extraordinary!

We are pleased to welcome Mr Simon Marriette to the role of Deputy Principal – Student Services for this Semester.

Mr Marriette is already well known to our students, staff and families, having served as a Program Coordinator in Student Services for the past two years.

Our Year 7 Clontarf Foundation boys kicked off Term 3 with an action-packed overnight camp at Ern Halliday!

The camp began with fishing at Hillarys, followed by pizza and marshmallows around the campfire. Day two started with a BBQ breakfast before the boys put their skills to the test with a competitive game of touch rugby.

The adventure continued at Karrinyup Shopping Centre with 18 holes of mini golf at Holey Moley and 10 challenge rooms at Hijinx Hotel. The boys then headed to Lake Gwelup Reserve for lunch and a game of Spikeball to finish off a fantastic camp.

Camps like these are a great opportunity for our students to strengthen friendships, build confidence and enjoy new experiences together.

Well done to our Year 7 boys on such a positive start to Term 3!
