Inner Sydney High School’s Year 10 Geography students spent a day on the land of the Gweagal people on Dharawal Country, journeying down to Wanda Beach for our annual fieldwork excursion. As part of their study of environmental change and coastal management strategies. The day provided an opportunity to deepen our understanding of this unique stretch of coastline while building geographical skills out in the dunes.
Many embraced the elements, and despite some challenging windy conditions, we all learned a thing or two about resilience. Fieldwork activities included using GPS devices, modelling and testing sea wall designs, conducting a vegetation transect of the sand dunes and interviewing locals (and even a pigeon) about environmental issues facing the community.
Thank you to the passionate educators from the Kamay and Botany Bay Environmental Education Centre for facilitating a great couple of days of outdoor learning.
