Some changes to student visa applications

English language student visa (subclass 500) application changes (as per 1.7.2024):

- Financial Capacity increased to AUD29,710 per person - single applicant
- Student Visa Fee increased to AUD1,600 per person - single applicant (first student visa application offshore & onshore)
- From 1.7.24 tourist/evisitor visa holders (subclass 600, 601, 651); medical treatment visa holders and skilled graduate visa holders (subclass 485) cannot apply student visa in AU.

Vocational Education and Higher Education student visa (subclass 500) applicants also have to prove English language proficiency of minimum 6.0 IELTS and equivalent.

The process of applying for new student visas is becoming increasingly challenging. Recently, the DHA has announced a raise in the required financial capacity from AUD24505 to AUD29710 for single applicants. It is valid from tomorrow the 10.5.2024.
