The New South Wales Teachers Federation is the registered trade union that covers NSW public school teachers. Our colleagues at the Raymond Terrace Teachers Association, provided the office of The Hon. Kate Washington with the names of voters in her Port Stephens electorate who are among the 15,000+ who have signed.

Developing Confidence and Capability in Music Education Aligned to the NSW Creative Arts K–6 Syllabus

Currently free for casual teachers and open to all members. This professional learning day is designed to directly support teacher readiness and curriculum implementation under the NSW Creative Arts K–6 Syllabus, equipping participants with practical resources, pedagogical strategies, and an informed perspective on the value of music in primary education.

Members should also note this course has been adjusted since last year, this means that it’s suitable for members to attend two years in a row and still gain new skills and confidence.

Can you spot your school in any of these throwback photos?

From 1996 to 2009 Federation held an annual photography competition. Both students and teachers, from schools or TAFE, could submit their photo in the hopes to win. The competition was an instant hit, with every year having a vast number of photos being submitted.

The competition had a different theme each year, which focused on public education and included topics like ‘Public education is our future’ and ‘Teachers – the heart of learning.’

All students have the right to feel safe, supported and respected.
Wear It Purple Day is an opportunity to demonstrate support and recognition of le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, intersex, asexual and more (LGBTIQA+) students, who often face prejudice.

Hosting a Wear It Purple Day event is an opportunity to begin creating safer, more inclusive and empowering environments for LGBTIQA+ young people.

Our classrooms have changed dramatically over the years, but the amount of preparation time hasn't.

Primary teachers have had the same two hours of preparation time each week since the 1980s and secondary teachers haven’t had an increase since the 1950s!

Federation is calling on the NSW Government to give our teachers an additional two hours of preparation time per week.

Federation's three Presidential Officers earlier today on their morning commute, ready to celebrate Wear it Purple Day.

Wear It Purple was created by students to ensure every LGBTQIA+SB young person knows they are seen, supported and never alone.
Since 2010, the movement has worked hard to foster safer, more inclusive environments where young people can be proud of who they are and hopeful about their future.

This is why it's important for us as teachers to been seen supporting our students and setting an example that provides safety and acceptance.

Thank you Henry, Tash, and Michael for reminding us this morning of this important message.
