In light of recent events in the Australian acting community, Screenwise reminds all actors, especially young and emerging, to stay vigilant.
Please remember:
• Legitimate agents do not charge sign-up fees. They earn commission only when you book work.
• Most casting agents work from professional offices or request meetings in public spaces. Always trust your instincts and verify opportunities.
When responding to castings or auditions, ask yourself:
• Am I comfortable with what’s being asked of me?
No audition or self-tape should ever involve nudity, sexual content, intimate contact, or stunts.
• Is the communication professional and respectful?
• Is the person or company who they claim to be?
If you’re ever unsure, refer to Screen Safe Australia’s National Guidelines for Screen Safety by the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance and Screen Produces Australia.
Let’s look out for one another and keep our industry safe.
