How does slow practice benefit us?
1. Practicing slowly helps to make sure each move is performed the correct way each time, thus properly developing neural pathways to non-declarative memory.
2. It helps to promote physiological relaxation. Relaxed muscles work with the body rather than impeding it, and will therefore move faster and generate more power.
3. Slow practice helps develop strength and balance.
4.By combining conciousness and relaxation, we create maximum efficiency and precision - these are the keys to effective karate.
"Slow is smooth. Smoothe is fast".
Special Military Operators quote.

Fall safety is a core principle of functional Martial Arts.
I mean, it is "self-defence" after all. It shouldn't matter if you're defending yourself against an aggressor or protecting your body from simple clumsiness - the goal is in negotiating a situation with the maximum beneficial outcome for your wellbeing.
This video is a progression of forward rolling from basic to advanced.

Based on years of research, I have discovered the REAL reason forward martial arts rolls were invented!
Keeping it real, cause that's how I roll!

These two legends were my first private students on the Sunshine Coast.
5 years later and these amazing young men are a few steps away from becoming black belts.π₯π₯π₯
While they've become stronger and their skills have steadily improved, what had been most rewarding for me is seeing their personal growth - the strengthening of their spirit, resilience and adaptability to change. ππ
I'm proud to be their sensei, but love being their uncle.
