"Dispersing jaguars may travel hundreds of kilometers looking for food, comfortable habitat or mates, and having an unbroken corridor for them to move through safely, without dangerous interactions with humans, will be key to saving them from extinction.
Creating and maintaining this corridor of protected jaguar habitat, combined with hospitable human development, is Panthera’s primary goal in the Americas. The entire purpose of the Journey of the Jaguar is to better understand the reality on the ground at key locations along it.
The Darien Gap is one of these key locations. It is not only the border between two nations—Colombia and Panama—but also the border between North and South America."

Crossing the Gap - Journey of the Jaguar
HOWARD QUIGLEY: The Darien Gap is one of the most remote tracts of jungle and swamp in the world. It’s a morass of thick undergrowth and boggy ground so impenetrable that it draws its nickname, The Gap, from the fact that it is the only interruption in the Pan-American Highway--the great road that...

Muli was 3 months old when she was found alone and in critical condition with a maggot-infested abdominal wound. It was a miracle she was alive.
Wildlife veterinarians and keepers at Sumatra’s Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation tiger rescue center spent 20 months rehabilitating Muli. Following a strict protocol, Muli had minimal human contact and was fed live prey to encourage hunting behavior.
Last year, Muli was successfully released back into the wild. There are only 400–500 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, so every individual counts.
You can see Muli's story here: https://gopro.com/news/gopro-cause-panthera-tiger-tambling-wildlife-nature-conservation

How would you feel if a pride of lions came and ate your cow during the night? With habitat declining, the natural prey of large carnivores is also declining, and livestock can make an easy meal. The death of a cow, goat, or sheep represents a serious loss for rural people in Africa, and local herdsmen often react by killing large predators such as lions.
Human-wildlife conflict is a major threat to big cats however this Living Walls initiative in Tanzania is making a positive impact, both on people's security and big cat conservation efforts.

This year, World Wildlife Day (3 March) is dedicated to the world’s big cats: cheetah, jaguar, leopard, lion, puma, snow leopard and tiger.
Big cats are among the most powerful creatures on the planet, but their populations are fragile. They are facing many threats to their survival in the wild, including loss of habitat and prey, poaching and smuggling, human-wildlife conflict, and climate change.
World Wildlife Day 2018 is an opportunity for people from every country to help raise awareness of the plight of big cats and to take personal action to help ensure the survival of the world’s big cats. You have the power to spread the word! You have the power to make a change!
