You may have noticed a new addition to our room… 🐸🦎

We recently introduced a tank into our room and soon after welcomed some very special “guests". Starting with tadpoles and now moving on to lizards, this evolving experience has been entirely guided by the children’s curiosity and interests, creating a meaningful and engaging journey of discovery.

The children help choose which creature to care for next. We then research our critter friends, discussing habitats, diets, and behaviours and the children collaborate to design and build a suitable habitat, thinking carefully about what each animal might need to feel safe and comfortable.

We love seeing the children take the lead asking questions, making decisions, and building connections with living things in such a respectful and thoughtful way. 💚

We can’t wait to see who our next classroom guest will be!

Let’s Talk Loose Parts!

From the outside looking in, it may not seem pretty. It can appear cluttered, chaotic, and even a little crazy. But within this space, chapters of childhood are being written. Stories are unfolding that would never exist anywhere else.

Loose parts are more than what meets the eye. They create possibility. They create ownership. They create a world where children are the true leaders of their play.

In this space, children develop essential life skills. They learn how to communicate their ideas and listen to others. They practise negotiating roles, sharing materials, and solving problems together. They navigate disagreements, build empathy, and discover how to work as a team.

Through open-ended play, children explore leadership, cooperation, patience, and respect. They become creative, imaginative, courageous, and determined. They test ideas, take risks, and adapt their thinking as their play evolves. In doing so, they are developing skills that extend far beyond childhood.

Our loose parts area is a truly beautiful space. Every day it becomes something new. Every day a new adventure unfolds. And every day it is incredible to watch children grow, learn, collaborate, and inspire one another.

Recently, a local family gifted us a bunya nut, and it sparked such rich learning. The children loved the hands-on process cracking open the large pods, peeling back the shells, and finally tasting the nuts inside. There was so much curiosity, excitement, and conversation along the way.

Our bunya experience naturally led to conversations about native bush tucker. The children eagerly shared stories of foods they’ve tried and discussed what they know about gathering food from the land.

Moments like these remind us how powerful hands-on experiences can be. Through simple acts of exploring, tasting, and talking together, children deepen their understanding of the land and the rich cultural heritage it holds.

How it's made - Vacation Care edition.

Did you know our Vacation Care programs are more than ideas put together by our educators. Each vacation care program is thoughtfully created with creativity, care, and plenty of input from the children themselves.

We actually start planning for our next vacation care during vacation care! We follow children’s interests, listen to their ideas and encourage everyone to have a say! We encourage the children to brainstorm, collaborate and even vote on what they'd love to do most! Then once their ideas are complete and with the guidance of our service philosophy and frameworks, we create experiences that support natural learning, curiosity, creativity, fun and free play.

We know our families and community want the very best for their children, and that’s exactly what we aim to provide during vacation care.

Yesterday we visited the beautiful Chambers Island, and what a day we had!

Yes, we climbed trees.
Yes, we jumped off the bridge.
Yes, we went exploring.
Yes, we caught fish.
And most importantly we had fun.

The children took balanced risks and created their own adventures and it was absolutely magical to see! Yesterday was a day outdoors, supporting kids to be kids.

Simple, yet meaningful in so many ways.

🚨 Emergency Services Day 🚨

The kids had an incredible time learning about the important work our local heroes do and enjoyed getting up close with the vehicles and equipment.

A huge shout out and thank you to our amazing special guests; Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service, Rural Fire Brigade, and Forestry Plantation Queensland for taking the time to join us and make the day so memorable.
