THE PROOF THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO TRACK CALORIES TO MAKE PROGRESS 🤍
This is what one of my client’s full days of eating can look like while we intentionally aren’t tracking calories or macros.
Instead, we’re using the plate model + hunger/fullness cues + food education to help her build a healthier, more flexible relationship with food.
And yes… she is STILL making measurable progress.
We’re focusing on:
Protein across the day
Plenty of fruit + vegetables
Carbohydrates to fuel training and recovery
Dietary fats for nourishment and satisfaction
Foods she genuinely enjoys
Learning to recognise and respond to hunger
No “good” or “bad” foods
No earning or compensating for food
No obsessing over numbers
And perhaps most importantly — we’re not trying to make every meal as light as possible.
If your goal is to build lean muscle, grow your glutes, get stronger and feel energised, your body needs to be adequately fuelled.
Sometimes that means adding more rice.
Sometimes it means choosing the bigger bun.
Sometimes it means having the bagel before leg day.
Sometimes it means having the mini Drumstick because soul foods are essential to a happy life.
And this is exactly why I love one on one coaching.
Because not every woman needs another calorie target to follow.
Some women need to learn how to eat without one.
We can still create structure, accountability and measurable progress without tracking every gram of food — but the approach needs to be personalised to you.
For Ashlea, stepping away from calorie tracking has actually given us an opportunity to work on something much bigger than numbers: trusting herself around food.
We’re not removing the foods she craves.
We’re not labelling foods as “off limits.”
We’re not compensating after a higher-calorie meal.
We’re learning how to include everything within a balanced overall day — and that is a skill that lasts far beyond a 12-week program. 🤍
So if you’ve ever thought:
“Surely I have to track calories if I want to make progress?”
Nope.
There are different ways to approach your goals, and the best method is the one that supports both your physical progress AND your relationship with food. 🍟🍒
