Ever notice how you can procrastinate by being… incredibly productive?
You clean the house.
Mow the lawn.
Go for a walk.
Do the groceries.
Food prep.
Solve about a million other problems…
Anything except the ONE thing you actually need to do.
For me, there’s a connection between neurodivergence, trauma responses and avoidance that can make this even more complicated.
And the tricky part? All those other things still give us a sense of achievement. So we can tell ourselves, “I wasn’t being lazy. I actually got so much done.”
One thing that helps me reset is making jewellery. Working with my hands, using tools, making something practical and methodical — it changes my state of mind and helps me step out of that procrastination and avoidance loop.
So maybe the question isn’t simply, “Why am I procrastinating?”
Maybe it’s: What can I bring into my day that helps me shift out of that state?
What works for you?
