💚 Reaching communities across Western Queensland

Recently, StandBy's UnitingCare Western Queensland team travelled across both South West and North West Queensland to support people and communities impacted by su***de.

From Mornington Island in the far north‑west to Cunnamulla in the south‑west, over 2,000 km apart! The team delivered workshops and direct support in some of Australia’s most remote communities.

👏 A big thank you to our LEPW and response workers for their support along the way.

🖤💛❤️ | 💙💚🤍🖤 Reconciliation in action
Recently, the StandBy team from Hunter, New England and Central Coast NSW came together on Wonnarua Country for a National Reconciliation Week morning tea.

🫶🏽 Staff engaged in shared learning and meaningful conversations. Staff from other Social Futures' programs were also in attendance. The team watched a short video before engaging in honest, reflective conversations. They then enjoyed a bush tucker-inspired morning tea from a local Aboriginal owned and operated café Blackseed Café, Cessnock.

🌿 Reconciliation is an ongoing commitment to respect, truth‑telling and connection, strengthening culturally safe support for communities impacted by loss.

🫶🏽Tips for living with su***de grief :
With guidance from lived experience, StandBy has created a free resource for people living with su***de grief 💙

Some people find that keeping a connection with the person who died can help them to process their grief. Sharing stories, participating in rituals, displaying photos or writing to them are some ways these connections can be maintained.

💬 “The first holiday without them was unbearable. Now, I’ve started new traditions to honour their memory.” — Person bereaved by su***de.

🖤💛❤️ ALL IN 💚💙🖤🤍
StandBy’s Central and Eastern Sydney team were proud to see a strong and vibrant community turnout at the Koojay Corroboree, Coogee Beach, for Reconciliation Week.

Despite the weather, the spirit was strong. Coralie was blown away by the support, and we thank Aunty Maxine Ryan, the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council and Randwick Council for a beautiful celebration of culture and connection. 🫶
