Today we have just installed the new Rapid Aim system of detecting fruit fly additional to the Pirsa traps many other growers or backyards are currently using , these new traps that have featured on Landline recently, can now give the grower real time detection as a fruit flys enters in , it is immediately detected and sent to a app to your phone as an alert 🔔 this info then can be quickly assessed and a treatment program by the grower or passed on onwards to Pirsa for possible sterile flys to be released,
If more people were to install these across various growing regions it would give a live updated tool to see if any outbreak’s do actually occur and could be fast to detect and treat before the female starts laying eggs in huge quantities .
These traps do have costs unfortunately as they are monitored but can save time and money on staff checking the other type of traps , the biggest ask is if this technology can detect fruit fly and save time and accuracy with detections so fruit fly treatments can start a lot quicker , surely they are worth installing not only for the grower but beneficial for the surrounding horticultural crops , the region and for the best interests for South Australia , now ask the question why are these traps that were developed by the CSIRO proven to work not deployed in the outbreak fruit fly regions on mass nor are they subsidised as a additional tool in the fight against this fruit fly war that’s seems to be getting worse especially in the Riverland

Midway Park Open Garden - talks and garden tours on subtropical and rare fruits that grow well here in Adelaide.

Many lucky visitors tasted our new season freshly picked Jujubes, and many had an opportunity to purchase potted Jujube trees as well as other subtropical plants from our nursery.

Midway park is a fantastic showcase of a large urban block planted to a number of different fruiting plants. It was my great pleasure to give talks to an audience of rare fruit enthusiasts, who expressed huge interest and demonstrated good understanding of rare fruits during question time. I am very glad that many gained knowledge and inspiration to be applied to their own gardens.
