What does a lesson in the new Mathletics Programme for New Zealand actually look like?
Hundreds of schools across the country found out last week. We're running a live walkthrough on Tuesday, so if you missed it, here's your chance to see for yourself.
Katy Pike, the designer and creator of the programme, will take you through a real unit and lesson sequence, with time for live questions.
Many of the themes raised during our first session are likely to come up again, including:
- Alignment to the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum
- How it works in multi-level and composite classrooms
- Support for learners working above or below their year level
- How the workbooks and online learning fit together
- What it means for schools already using Mathletics

We spend so much time teaching students how to read, but are we giving equal attention to helping them truly understand?
In this piece, Dr. Lynne Kulich, Ph.D. reminds us that decoding is only half the equation. Real comprehension depends just as much on language: vocabulary, background knowledge, and conversation.
It’s not phonics or comprehension—it’s both, built intentionally every day.

What does it really take to help kids fall in love with reading?
In this uplifting episode of Reading With Your Kids, 3P Learning's Sheila Robitaille shares how the science of reading comes to life through Reading Eggs.
Breaking down the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency, Sheila explains how Reading Eggs brings them together in an engaging way that keeps students motivated.
From earning “golden eggs” to exploring a library of 4,000+ eBooks, it’s all about building confidence and supporting every learner.

It's not just about scores. It's about what happens when a student finally feels safe to try.
That's what Robyne Mackenzie has been observing for years.
As a Learning Support Teacher and Guidance Counsellor at Niji Mahkwa School in Winnipeg, she's seen Reading Eggs, Mathseeds and Mathletics help students believe they're capable.
"Confidence in the ability to take educational risks is the ground floor of learning."
