On the evening of the 18th of August, Pine Rivers captains attended the Vietnam Veteran's Commemoration Service held by Bray Park-Strathpine RSL Sub-Branch at Club Pine. 60 years on from the Battle of Long Tan, this evening saw our students pay respect to the fallen of that battle, and for all other members of the Australian Defence Force who took part in the Vietnam War. Lest We Forget.

Year 11 Media Arts in Practice students recently participated in an excursion to Brisbane City and Roma Street Parklands, exploring both natural and urban scenes with their lens.

The excursion provided a fantastic opportunity to take photos for their current unit - Community - where they interview and take portrait photos of a chosen person to celebrate them and inform others about them. Many have chosen friends in the class, family members, even teachers!

They also visited the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Photographic Award finalists exhibition in City Hall, to see what other local photographers are up to and to see how a professional exhibition is displayed.

Here are just a few of the fantastic photos they took on the day.

Our Year 12 General Mathematics students have been putting our writing desks to great use as they tackle their final content for the year!

Working collaboratively, students have been solving problems, sharing strategies and putting their mathematical thinking on display — quite literally! From data and networks to problem-solving and revision, the desks have provided a great space for students to work together and learn from one another.

With the external exam fast approaching, it’s fantastic to see our students engaging, collaborating and challenging themselves as they prepare to finish their General Mathematics course strongly.

This Term, Year 7 English students have been learning about story writing by using natural phenomena as a device to create a 'myth'. Students have been working hard in class creating and writing their stories. This week with Miss Brooke and Mr Payne's class used cooperative learning to establish key features of a myth and how to implement these into their own stories.

Recently Pine Rivers saw three teams travel to the Gold Coast to participate in the 2026 Volleyball QLD Senior Schools Cup. Late games and early starts didn't deter the students involved, with all players putting in maximum effort into every match across all three days of competition.
The open girls played a strong tournament finishing 4th overall, the team had many highlights across their games and gained plenty of experience that the year 10's and 11's on the team will take with them over the next few years. The year 11 boys took the step up into Division 1 and performed brilliantly, finishing 5th in a stacked pool against other elite volleyball talent. The skill demonstrated in the higher division shows the development of this team who are in their 4th year together as a playing squad and continue to show improvement every year. The final team and Pine's final game of the tournament belonged to the year 12 boys who finished their last Schools Cup together with a successful competition, taking out the Gold in a tight game against a strong Ferny Grove team. The boys truly saved their best game until last, winning the match 2-0, going to extended sets in both set 1&2 of the match showing great Perseverance.
All teams showed what it means to be a Pine student on court displaying our school values of Integrity and Nurturing, collecting great feedback from other schools around the conduct demonstrated by our teams throughout the event. The combination of on court success and great reputation built through actions exemplifies the schools moto of By different ways to Excellence.

Our STEM Girl Power Camp Ambassador, Prisca, teamed up with our QIPs to bring Science Week to life during lunchtime! Junior students explored plasma balls, chromatography, specimens and USB microscopes, sparking curiosity and hands-on discovery.

This year’s Science Week theme, “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All,” was certainly in action!

As part of their Community Recreation unit, Year 11 Outdoor Recreation students stepped out of the classroom and plunged into the high-adrenaline world of commercial adventure at The Jungle Adventure Play in North Lakes.

From conquering towering multi-level high ropes and navigating elite ninja warrior courses, to scaling vertical walls equipped with advanced auto-belay technology, students directly experienced how outdoor thrills are seamlessly engineered into a controlled, high-safety environment.

Equipped with real-world insights, these young leaders will now investigate, plan, perform, and evaluate their very own community recreation activities.

The culture of leadership at the Pine is strong, and today we saw the next generation of student leaders take an important step forward.

Our Junior Leaders received their leadership application forms this week and yesterday met with their Senior Leaders, who will act as mentors and support them over the next fortnight as they develop and write their applications.

A special acknowledgement to our Year 8 Head of Year, Ms Reid who has done an incredible job building the confidence, connection and leadership capacity of our Year 8 students. It is wonderful to see that work reflected in the enthusiasm and confidence they are bringing to this next step.

We look forward to seeing our Junior Leaders’ ideas, aspirations and leadership potential shine through
