Congratulations to Carmen, Charlot, Pepper, Charlotte and Thomas on an outstanding achievement at the Ekka Agricultural Sciences & Student Beverages Competition – Non-Wine Beverages category!

Leading up to the competition, our Year 10 Science in Practice students explored the science of fermentation — growing and nurturing their own live ginger bugs, experimenting with flavours and developing their own fermented soft drinks.

Their creativity, curiosity and practical science skills turned scientific investigation into award-winning results! 🔬✨

Thank you to Mrs Findlay, Ms Fowler, Mr Rologas and Mrs Campbell for creating such a hands-on learning experience and providing our students with the opportunity to showcase their Practical Science Excellence.

Our Year 10 Food and Fibre students had the wonderful opportunity to learn from fashion designer and educator Kim Bailey from East of Grey as part of an engaging two-part fashion workshop.

Students in the Fibre rotation explored colour theory and discovered how to identify colours that complement their skin tone, hair and eye colour. They also developed their fashion illustration skills through a marker workshop, learning how to communicate movement, garment details and design features through illustration.

Students walked away with valuable industry skills and knowledge to support them in completing their assessment, Becoming a Fashion Designer, where they design three outfits for a teacher of their choice.

A huge thank you to Kim for sharing her expertise and inspiring our students to develop their creativity and confidence as emerging fashion designers!

Next term, our second Food and Fibre class will have the opportunity to participate in the same workshop. We can’t wait to see what they create!

What a season! 🏐 Pine Rivers Volleyball had 6 teams compete in the Brisbane Outer Schools Volleyball League, with 4 making their grand finals and 3 bringing home GOLD! 🥇

Congratulations to our Open Girls, Intermediate Girls 1 and Open Boys on fantastic grand final wins!

A special shoutout to our Intermediate Boys, who battled through the season with just 6 players due to injury, making the grand final and taking home SILVER. 🥈

We’re also incredibly proud of our 7 All-Star 6 selections — an outstanding achievement!

Recently a group of our Japanese students had the opportunity to be part of Japanese Immersion Day at Petrie State School.

They spent the day leading and guiding Year 3, 5 and 6 students through a range of fun and engaging Japanese activities, including origami, traditional Japanese toys, Hiragana Snap, Janken Hop (rock, paper, scissors) and Tamaire, a Japanese bean-bag tossing game.

It was fantastic to see our students sharing their knowledge, supporting younger students and helping to promote Japanese language and culture in our local school community.

The gene-iuses of year 10 Biology have been learning all about DNA structure and function. Students got a hands-on experience with DNA extraction using strawberries and kiwi fruit to isolate and observe DNA. The class discovered that this remarkable biomolecule is actually quite unremarkable to look at.

Could you carry everything you need to survive for four days… and hike through mountain terrain to get there?

Our Year 10 Outdoor Recreation students took on the challenge at Mt Barney National Park this term.

With everything packed on their backs, students spent four days navigating challenging terrain using only a map and compass. There were tough climbs, tired legs and plenty of moments that tested them — but also laughter, teamwork and encouragement.

When the going got tough, students demonstrated true PINE Perseverance, lifting each other up and continuing to push forward.

After reflecting on the experience, both groups agreed it was one of their toughest challenges yet — and one they are incredibly proud to have conquered together.

A huge thank you to Mr Weller, Mrs Campbell, Chappy Dave and Mr Russell for giving their time and supporting our students through this unforgettable and valuable learning experience.

As we walked out these gates this afternoon, marking the final day of Term 3, our Pine Rivers community formed a guard of honour to celebrate and farewell our Deputy Principal, Ms Terri Fletcher, as she retires after an extraordinary 40 years in education.

From Mount Isa to Childers, Mt Gravatt, Mansfield and Pine Rivers State High School, Terri’s dedication, care and contribution to education has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students, staff and school communities.

From all of us at Pine Rivers State High School — Thank you Terri, for your years of service, your unwavering care and congratulations on an incredible career.

Most Mondays during Term 3, a group of Year 7 boys have been meeting with Chappy Dave and Mr Russell in the pool shed participating in a program called Next Up. During these sessions, the boys have been learning key lessons about respect by talking, listening and by participating in range of different activities. As the boys develop into young men, we hope that they've taken on board the lessons learnt during this time.
