South Pine Community Kindergarten Your local community Kindy. Each day we imagine, play and grow on Yuggera and Turrbal land.

South Pine Community Kindergarten and Preschool provides a warm and friendly atmosphere where children can learn and develop their potential, and parents/guardians feel welcome to join in, make friends and learn with their children. We are a community kindergarten which means we are a not-for-profit, community controlled kindergarten. We offer a foundational, play-based education program approved by the Queensland Studies Authority that is based in the community and is complementary to the preparatory year of schooling. Affiliated with The Gowrie

The Gowrie (Qld) Inc is a non-profit, early childhood organisation and a member of the national consortium, Gowrie Australia. At the beginning of 2011 our kindergarten appointed The Gowrie as our Central Governing Body. We are offering the same high standard of care and education as we have for over 35 years. The Management Committee along with the teaching staff have worked to make this a seamless transition from old to new, and look forward to a bright future for our Centre.

What a wonderful way to finish term 3!

Today, our Kindy children joined Strathpine West State School for their Fun Run!

With the support of our wonderful parent helpers and year 6 buddies, the children tackled the obstacle course, getting delightfully soaked in water and BUBBLES!

It was wonderful to see the children laughing, encouraging one another and enjoying this special opportunity to connect with our wider school community. Many children completed five or even six laps- what an achievement!

Throughout this term, our children have explored the process of building and sustaining a small fire, developing an understanding of the science of oxygen, heat and fuel alongside practical skills.

Using the Dragon’s Breath tool and cotton buds, children have developed patience, persistence and problem-solving as they work towards lighting and sustaining a small fire.
Purposeful tasks such as separating cotton buds and collecting sticks provide meaningful opportunities for children to contribute, build confidence and develop practical skills within our outdoor program.

✨ Twilight Evening 2026 ✨

On Friday night, our playground came alive for our annual Twilight Evening, glowing under the evening sky and filled with the joyful aroma of good food, laughter and community.

Our families enjoyed listening to live music led by Cheyne, one of our wonderful dads. Our playground was transformed by a beautiful lighting display, extending into our magnificent fig tree and across the monkey bars, thanks to the wonderful Neundorf family business High Impact Lighting

As dusk descended, the children headed off into the twilight with torches in hand for a magical game of ‘Find the Australian Animal’. What a delight it was to see their excitement as they searched together!

There were conversations, mingling, dancing and a shared dinner, all topped off with a sweet ice block treat, the perfect way to finish a beautiful evening together.

At South Pine Kindy, Twilight Evening has been shaped by our families. We see this event as a special touchpoint of connection in our calendar year. It is so wonderful to see our families come together, build friendships and share in the joy of their child's learning journey.

We also want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our incredible Kindy Committee for all the work they do behind the scenes, from marketing and promotions, grants and maintenance, workplace health and safety, to governance and so much more.

And thank you to every single parent, family member and volunteer who contributes their time, ideas and energy to South Pine Kindy. You are what makes our Kindy such a wonderful place for children a place where families are welcomed, friendships grow, and everyone is free to join in and participate.

I went to the library… and what did I see?
A September display highlighting the intentional learning environments our Kindergarten children engage with each day — spaces designed to support identity, connectedness, wellbeing, active learning, and communication.

Through their artwork, investigations, and problem‑solving, children demonstrate early STEM thinking, literacy practices, and creative expression, making their learning visible to our community.
A celebration of high‑quality early childhood education, where children’s voices shape the curriculum and guide meaningful learning.

Our display will be set up at the Strathpine Library for the entire month of September. Make sure you check it out.

🌿 A day of learning, reflecting and growing together 🌿

South Pine Kindy and Next Steps Kindy - Everton Park teachers had the privilege of spending a day of professional learning with Dr Claire Helen Warden.

We explored Floorbooks as a living cycle of reflection, thinking about how they can capture children’s thinking, make learning visible and continually inform where we go next.

Through a nature pedagogy lens, we reflected on how our nature practices are shaped by culture, community, curriculum and climate and how these connections influence the way we see, experience and respond to the places we belong to.

We came away with some wonderful insights into how we can go deeper with our teams, children and community, continuing to question, reflect and grow our practice.

The children have been using a range of materials, including sticks, crates and fabric, to create their own fort structures. Using stick connectors, they have been experimenting with constructing new teepees from large, tall sticks. They have also added fabric using clips and incorporated crates that has continued to change shape throughout the week as their ideas and play have evolved.

This flexible, open-ended play allows the children to collaboratively reshape their environment in response to their changing ideas and imagination. Through this play, the children have been exploring design, balance, problem-solving, collaboration testing and redesigning to shape and bring their ideas to life.

Bumper cars with numbers, race cars, dinosaur worlds, tea parties, barn yards for animals created with blocks, and Ferris wheels inspired by the Pine Rivers Show were just some of the many ways children engaged in play this week.

At South Pine Kindy, our Philosophy recognises that "play is a driver for learning". We believe that high-quality play is not only a fundamental right of childhood but is also essential to children's holistic learning, development and wellbeing.

As we celebrate Early Learning Matters Week 2026, we are proud to showcase the rich learning that happens when children are given the time, space and opportunity to play.

Pine Rivers Show - "Voices of Our Community"

Each kindergarten group has contributed artefacts to this year's Pine Rivers Show. The 2026 theme, "Voices of Our Community," celebrates the stories, places, and experiences that connect us. Our kindergarten will be featured in the Main Hall alongside four other local kindergartens.

The children's contributions include their paperbark tree wonderings and leaf inquiries, which have been brought together in a collaborative tree installation displayed in the corner of our exhibition space. These works reflect the children's curiosity about the natural environment and the important role it plays in our community.

Inspired by the artwork of Debra Hood, the Lilly Pilly children explored collage houses and block designs, reflecting on the places they call home. Through conversations, observations, and creative expression, they considered the unique features of their homes and what makes each one special.

Families from the Kookaburra Group shared reflections on the distinctive features of their homes, which inspired printed fabric designs created by the children. Together, these artworks celebrate the diversity of our community while highlighting the shared sense of belonging that grows from the places we call home.

Some partnerships are unique, and Eco Playscapes is definitely one of them 💚🪵🌿

We can't thank you enough for the way you work alongside us, sharing our vision to imagine and create spaces for our children and community.

Seeing our yarning circle come to life again, crafted from reclaimed Australian hardwood and thoughtfully repurposed. It's more than just a playground feature, it's a place for connection, storytelling, fire, belonging and connection to country.
