"My twin sons, Luke (25) and Jack (16), made their middle school basketball team. They were two of four 7th graders that made it (the rest of their teammates are in 8th grade).
While they are both smart/skilled players, they are vastly undersized, and understandably get very little playing time during games.
They are the epitome of Role Players.
Here is what I’ve encouraged them to do:
“Star where you are.” Be the most valuable role player you can be. Practice hard, be coachable, have a great attitude, be engaged from the bench, and ’be the teammate you want to play with.’ Focus on the ‘We’, not the ‘Me.’
“You may not be the best ON the team, but you can be the best FOR the team.” Don’t focus on how little you are playing, focus on how much you are learning, growing, and developing… and how much you are contributing to the culture. Everything you do now makes a deposit into your future as a basketball player. So make daily deposits!
“Be ready, as there may not be time to get ready.” Be ‘in the game’ (mentally) before you get ‘in the game’ (physically). And when you’re number is called - even if it’s for 30 seconds at the end of a blowout - make the most of it! Make the most every opportunity… as they will compound and multiply!
This season will be an invaluable learning experience for them… which as a parent is all I can hope for!"

As we prepare for our 25th Anniversary celebrations (purchase tickets here bit.ly/stfrancis25 ) we have been enjoying looking back at photos of 'back in the day.' We think this photo was taken just before the school opened in 1994, how adorable are the eager students getting a tour of their new school - but who are they?!

Wonderful to see so many families join us for our annual Caritas K’s walk. A great way to raise awareness and funds for the most vulnerable people of the world. Each class carried a bucket of water to walk in the shoes of so many in our world who don’t have access to clean, safe water. Thanks parents, staff and students for supporting the 2019 Project Compassion appeal! Together we can make a difference.

The Year 4’s struck it rich at the gold fields. Gold fever!

What a perfect day for the Year 4 Sovereign Hill camp.

Thanks to Margaret Hand for coordinating several Apple educators to be present for the Year 6 i-pad launch. You have given up many days of your holidays to have our hardware and software ready for the start of the year. I hope our students know how lucky they are.

A reminder to the St. Francis of the Fields School community. Students will be undertaking the MAI (mathematics) assessments on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31
January.

Could all parents please bring their child/ren to their 2019 classroom at their allocated time? (Check your emails as all families were sent confirmation emails of chosen times).

All staff are looking forward to meeting with you on these days.

Grace Scalora, Maree O’Connor and Tim Moloney are looking forward to welcoming all new students and family members to St. Francis of the Fields Primary School on Sunday 27th January from 10.00am.

Our new Foundation students will be able to visit their classrooms, toilets, drink taps and play on the playground.

Feel free to bring a plate so we can enjoy a cuppa, or cool drink as we get to know each other in the Community Centre.

Remember to slip, slop and slap in preparation for a warm morning.
