A seemingly simple material with a clever way of making big numbers click. 🔢

The Montessori Large Number Cards introduce children to the decimal system in a visual, hands-on way. Different colours and card lengths categorise units, tens, hundreds and thousands, helping children understand place value. Children then select a card from each category before layering them together to reveal a four digit number. This turns large abstract numbers into something they can see, arrange and explore.

Today Sat 22nd Aug marked a very special milestone for Montessori Academy as we celebrated the grand opening of our Northmead childcare and preschool. ⭐️

We were honoured to welcome a wonderful group of distinguished guests, including The Hon Alex Hawke MP Member for Mitchell, City of Parramatta Council Deputy Lord Mayor Cr Charles Chen, Cr Georgina Valjak, Cr Tanya Raffoul, and Fr Menard Gaspi.

Together alongside hundreds of local families, we celebrated the beginning of a new chapter dedicated to nurturing, learning and growing our youngest members of the Northmead community. Thank you for celebrating with us!

It’s Science Week, and curiosity is in full swing at Bexley Montessori Academy.

From erupting volcanoes and plant life cycles to insect anatomy and pollination, children love exploring the science behind the world around them. Science forms part of the Montessori Culture curriculum, where children explore nature, biology, geography and the wider world. Alongside Montessori materials during the Work Cycle, fun activities guided by children’s interests are woven into everyday learning, giving them even more opportunities to wonder, investigate and discover.

What people might see as 'just a puzzle' is a actually great way to see physics in action. The Montessori Roman Arch brings ancient engineering to life in a way children can see and explore for themselves.

Piece by piece, children carefully assemble the arch, exploring concepts like balance, weight, force and gravity along the way. Then comes the most satisfying part: removing the middle support and watching it stand on its own. This impressive feat of ancient engineering is made even better by watching our preschool children master it!

The real impact of Montessori materials comes from how they’re used. In a thoughtfully prepared environment, children have the freedom to choose their work, go at their own pace, repeat activities, build concentration and grow their independence.

But Montessori is about so much more than the materials. It’s the environment around the child, the way adults guide rather than direct, the freedom to make meaningful choices, and the space to take an active role in their own learning.

Because what makes Montessori different isn’t just what children are learning with. It’s having the freedom and support to explore, practise and figure things out for themselves.

Repetition isn’t boring. It’s how mastery begins.

In Montessori, Practical Life activities help children develop careful, precise and purposeful movements. Through cutting, children strengthen their hands, refine coordination and control, and build concentration through repetition.

As children repeat a skill at their own pace, they build confidence, independence and greater precision.

They’re also preparing their hands for more complex skills such as writing.

It may look simple, but every snip is helping build the foundations for what comes next.
