Okay team!
It's been quiet on the Creative Adventures front since we need to set up NFP or some legal structure to properly run outdoor activities and be covered.... sad!
I have a couple of weeks right now to offer tutoring face-to-face in the Cairns region or online. I am also putting together online group sessions for Personal Development + HPE concepts (great for teens in general but also homeschoolers looking to tick off a few of these boxes), and Visual Art learning for teens as well, or 12yo+ if there is interest.
Can you pass on my details to any parents you know who might be interested in these things for their kids?
I can do Primary aged tutoring from Year 5 and Highschool English, Humanities, and Arts, as well as general coaching / support for teens (and their parents? hehe).
Thank you....!!!

Let me help your teen! Get them out of the house and off their device.... Get them connected with nature and other peers and maybe the world outside the bubble...!
It's okay, it can be a challenging time for everyone and maybe you just need a break :D
Or maybe you have an Angel but they just need to spread their wings a little more.... or spread their lightness to others?
I LOVE to just provide a safe space for teenagers to re-connect with their (higher?) Selves and each other in a relaxed and fun environment. Safety first right!? That is, mental health safety!
Teens need to take appropriate risks, and be encouraged in pro-social behaviours. The Great Outdoors is the perfect place for both these things!
During Term time, I take teens out Wednesdays and Thursdays for different activities including coaching on personal interest projects, bush walking, swimming, and art-making or practical life learning.
Maybe this could be for your teen, if you are in the Cairns area?
Or maybe you are interested in an online community with regular group coaching?
Message me and tell me what is needed ... Personal Development and getting more confident? Or encouraging and structuring their interest-based / unschooling learning at home ...?
With Courage

How do you learn...? Do you get curious about something, ask questions .... look for different resources for information and perspectives?
How do humans construct meaning?
Is meaningful learning ... connected to the learner's own experience and their understanding of the world?
There are so many ways to approach learning and building quality life experiences. Each 'learning area' often has it's own ways and methods, particularly when each 'learning area' is separated out and made distinct, as is often the case in mainstream schooling.
Project-Based Learning can be a 'way in' to integrated and relevant interest-orientated learning that has 'real-world' outcomes ... young people are invited to seek out experts in the community, do interviews, ask questions and do research and create something in alignment with an interest area.
This model has lots in common with Problem-Based Learning, Inquiry Learning, and Action Research. And it's a great way to develop skills for life, for business, and for academic research.
It's only one way, but it is powerful because it's a process that can be applied to any interest area.
Do YOU have a project on the go?

Photos from today Wednesday 30th March ... second last day for us for Term 1..!
We started the day with talking about personal interest projects, and everyone came up with an idea (or revisited their project idea from the other week).
Each person started developing a ‘project proposal’ to describe their main goal, outlining what resources they would need and what products/outcomes they would produce….
This is something for the teens to work on over the next eight weeks at home. I will check in with them on it next term and they will each present their products/outcomes to the group and discuss their process at the start of June ✌️
This process is great for interest-based learning but also 'Life' … as a way toward creating clear goals and breaking them down into smaller tasks/steps with deadlines etc…
Afterwards we went to the 'Zen spot' at Redlynch Valley and enjoyed the rushing water (and we tried to get away from the mozzies!). Eden said he was allowed(?) to jump out of the tree there, and the others helped him out with checking the water for depth and obstacles.... My 'rule' has been, you're allowed to do it if you've done it before with parent-consent .... if you haven't done it before, then you can't try it out for the first time under my watch. I do like to allow an appropriate level of risk-taking... but yeah, my insurance won't cover me for it...! I trust that these teens are old enough to make the right judgement. Hopefully everyone works within their own individual limits and assesses the risks appropriately.
When we finished up with the swim there we went to my place and tried to work through a refection activity, what was good and not so good ... not sure if it really worked, but I will collate the notes. :D
It was decided that we would head up the hill for our last day tomorrow (and get away from the mozzies!), and Vicki was really keen for the German Sausage van at Kuranda.... so that's the plan! :D
We also came up with some more ideas for Term 2 activities. Onwards and upwards!

On our second Wednesday of Creative Adventures, we got to rock-hop over the Barron Gorge and find a secret spot for a swim on the side of the mountain....!
Louise and Bonnie and Brae joined in on Wednesday for this one :D
We did the Red Arrow and took a little bike ride to Lake Placid as well before we had smoothies and relaxed... phew!
