🥟 We’re still thinking about our unforgettable cooking class with Chef Karena Armstrong from The Salopian Inn! ✨

Our guests created an incredible menu featuring Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings with Crispy Chilli Oil, BBQ Cardamom & Mustard Chicken, Roasted Beetroot & Almond Salad, and freshly made Sourdough Focaccia. The Seasonal Fruit Galette with Almond & Runny Cream for dessert looked so good that it disappeared before we even had a chance to take a photo! 🍰

If you missed out, there’s still one more opportunity to join us on Saturday, 26 September.

Cook alongside one of South Australia’s leading chefs, learn her techniques, enjoy an inspiring day in the kitchen, and rub shoulders with one of the best in the industry.

Seats are limited, so don’t miss your chance to be part of this special experience!

🇯🇵 Last night’s Essential Japanese Cooking Class was all about bold flavours, simple techniques and dishes you’ll want to make again and again at home.

One of the stars of the menu was this irresistible Japanese Fried Chicken (Karaage) – juicy chicken marinated in soy, ginger and garlic, then fried until perfectly golden, light and incredibly crispy.

Guided by our former Shiki chef, guests learnt the secrets behind authentic Japanese cooking, from balancing umami-rich flavours to creating glossy glazes and punchy dipping sauces.

Our class menu included:

🥟 Pork Gyoza Dumplings
🍗 Traditional Teriyaki Chicken
🥩 Beef & Green Bean Rolls with Sweet Japanese BBQ Sauce
✨ Japanese Fried Chicken (Karaage)

Who else could eat a whole bowl of karaage? 😍🇯🇵

🍗 🇵🇹 🇲🇦 What an incredible Saturday morning in the kitchen! Our Portuguese & Moroccan Adventure Cooking Class was filled with great food, plenty of laughs, and an amazing group of passionate home cooks, all expertly guided by the talented Chef Mark McNamara.

One of the highlights of the day was this beautiful Frango Estufado – a rich, slow-braised Portuguese chicken with fragrant rice and a bold peri peri sauce that’s guaranteed to become a favourite at home.

Alongside this comforting dish, our guests mastered everything from flaky Moroccan mesemmen and handmade merguez to traditional pastéis de bacalhau, vibrant Moroccan salads, tangia marrakchia, and finished on a sweet note with delicate Queijadas de Sintra.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the morning so much fun.

We can’t wait to welcome you back for another culinary adventure!

Still dreaming about last weekend’s Spirit House cooking class with Kelly Lord! 🌿🔥

That banana leaf wrapped salmon curry, steeped in fresh coconut and kaffir lime, was the kind of dish that stops a room mid-conversation — fragrant, silky, and unforgettable. Add in crispy Thai curry puffs with homemade sweet chilli, a zingy grilled pork and cherry tomato salad with sriracha lime dressing, black bean ginger chicken, and a turmeric panna cotta with dark palm sugar to finish… honestly, we’re already counting down to the next class. 😍🍽️

Who’s joining us next time?

🔥 What a morning! 🔥

Last Saturday, our kitchen came alive with the bold flavours and smoky aromas of South America during our Asado & Fire: A Latin Meat Lovers Masterclass.

Our guests rolled up their sleeves to create a delicious Latin feast, including crispy Brazilian chicken croquettes with chilli mayo, perfectly chargrilled rump cap steak with country-style red salsa, Argentine BBQ sausages with fresh chimichurri, golden cassava fries, a refreshing Brazilian citrus slaw, and buttery dulce de leche shortbread sandwich cookies.

There was plenty of sizzling on the grill, lots of laughs, and an incredible meal shared around the table.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a fun and flavour-filled class!

We can’t wait to welcome you back for another culinary adventure. ❤️🔥

🥮✨ Golden, crisp and beautifully fragrant, Turkish M’hanncha was the perfect sweet finale to our Mediterranean Feast cooking class with Chef Rosa Matto.

Also known as the “snake cake” because of its distinctive coiled shape, this much-loved dessert has its roots in North Africa and has become a treasured sweet across many parts of the Mediterranean.

Wrapped in delicate pastry and filled with nuts, warming spices and fragrant flavours, it’s a dessert that’s every bit as impressive to make as it is to share.

It was just one of the many highlights from a fantastic Saturday morning, where everyone created an incredible Mediterranean feast featuring Spanish paella 🥘, pesce saor 🐟, Turkish lamb and pistachio gözleme 🫓, and many more delicious dishes inspired by the region.

A morning filled with wonderful food, new skills, laughter and the joy of bringing people together around the table. 🇪🇸🇹🇷🇮🇹🌊✨

🇮🇹 It’s not always easy to capture the magic in a busy kitchen, but thanks to Lauren, we managed to snap Chef Luca doing what he does best! 🍝✨

In our Pasta Making the Italian Way class, Luca is putting the finishing touches on one of the stars of the menu: a creamy Carnaroli risotto infused with saffron stock, sweet peas, fresh asparagus, and a drizzle of fragrant lemon oil.

Simple ingredients, authentic techniques, and plenty of fun—just the Italian way! 🇮🇹👨‍🍳

💫 🐟 🥭 • Crispy Fried Barramundi
with tamarind chutney & green mango salad

Crispy fried barramundi meets a perfect balance of sweet, tangy and fresh in this vibrant Thai-inspired dish.

Golden and crunchy on the outside, tender and flaky inside, the fish is paired with a rich tamarind chutney infused with ginger, garlic, palm sugar and chilli.

It’s finished with a bright green mango salad of snake beans, red onion, coriander and lime, adding freshness and crunch in every bite.

Simple, fresh and full of flavour — a dish that’s all about contrast and balance, best enjoyed straight from the pan.

❤️Today we are celebrating and honouring Genevieve Harris, one of our most treasured chefs here at Sticky Rice Cooking School, as she begins her well-earned retirement.

It is a very happy occasion for her, but also a very sad one for all of us as we say goodbye.

For more than 17 years, Genevieve has been at the heart of our kitchen—sharing her extraordinary talent, guiding hundreds of classes, and helping create thousands of memorable experiences for our guests.

Her cooking has taken us across Mexico, the Middle East, and South East Asia, bringing bold flavours, skill, and creativity to every dish she teaches.

But what we will remember most is her presence in the room—her warmth, her energy, and her beautiful, ever-present smile.

Genevieve has been part of our story for so long that we’ve truly grown together over the years.

She has shaped not only the way we cook, but the way we connect, learn, and share food with others.
From all of us at Sticky Rice, thank you, Genevieve.

You will always be part of our family, always welcome, and always missed in the kitchen.

We wish you every happiness in this next chapter and a truly well-deserved retirement.

With love and gratitude,
⛩️The Sticky Rice Cooking School Team
