Applications are now open for the Transnational Organised Crime program! 🌍🚨

Transnational Organised Crime (LAWS5231), is a joint LLB elective course at The University of Queensland offered annually in cooperation with the University of Vienna (Austria), the University of Zurich (Switzerland), the University of Cologne (Germany) and the University of Ferrara (Italy). In this course, students conduct their own research project and learn and work collaboratively in an international setting.

In 2026-2027 the focus is on Organised Crime and the Environment and will be hosted in Vienna. A travel subsidy will be awarded to each student to cover the costs of accommodation in Vienna.

The course is limited to five UQ students. Interested students can email [email protected] to receive further information. 📩

🎉 Huge congratulations to our two UQ teams who represented the UQ Law School at this year’s Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

⚖️ Zara Barry, Ronan Mellick and Anna McAuley (Team UQ 1) reached the Grand Final, and finished as runners-up 🥈. The team were also awarded runner-up for Best Memorials for both Respondent and Applicant, Zara earned an Honourable Mention for her oral submissions in the general rounds, and was named Best Speaker of the Grand Final! 🏆 Huge credit to coaches Lucas Sherington and Emily Johns for supporting the team.

🌟 Meanwhile Team UQ 2 — Forest Hondas, Aleisha Ling and Tharangini Thirumurugan — had a brilliant tournament of their own, battling through to the Quarterfinals against tough international competition. Thank you to coaches Ella Woods and Jackson Hanigan for their guidance throughout.

🏆 Congratulations to our winning team! 🏆

UQ Law School is proud to celebrate Indi McKeown and Darcy Graham, who took out the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students Mooting Competition, run by ILAQ!

The team faced a strong Bond University side in the grand final, argued before an incredible judging panel: Chief Justice Bowskill, President of the Court of Appeal Justice Debra Mullins, and Justice Crowley.

Huge thanks to coaches Oliver Forsman and Zoe Fraser for their guidance and support throughout the competition. 👏

A big thank you also to ILAQ and all sponsors for making this competition possible and for championing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in law.

Register now for the 2026 Richard Cooper Memorial Lecture 🚢

The UQ Law School and the Federal Court of Australia invite you to attend the 2026 Richard Cooper Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, 14 October.

This year's lecture, 'Canberra Marooned on Shipping Reform', will be presented by Stuart Hetherington, consultant of Colin Biggers & Paisley and Past President of the Comitè Maritime International (CMI).

The lecture will explore the development of international conventions governing the carriage of goods by sea, and Australia's legislative responses to those conventions from 1924 to the present day.

A massive congratulations to our fifth-year Arts/Law student, Indi McKeown, for taking out the First Nations Student Award at the Queensland Law Society Excellence in Law Awards on Saturday night! 👏🏼🏆

Highlighting exceptional results in study and contribution to improved justice outcomes for First Nations communities, the First Nations Student Award recognises a law student with passion, dedication and positivity. Whilst establishing the foundations of a future career, this student also has a focus on how they can use their legal knowledge to help advance First Nations people and their communities.
