As part of our Melbourne Design Week Open Studio event this weekend, the late Lloyd Godman’s enchanting greenhouse will host an exhibition of drawings from our recent ‘Slow Looking: Drawing from Place’ workshops.

Visitors are invited to sit and sketch, or contribute to a communal artwork inspired by the ever expanding family of Tillandsia air plants and Bromeliads.

Immerse yourself in the act of slow looking, take time out and feel free to record your impressions of light, colour, form and place.

Today we celebrate George Baldessin on what would have been his 87th birthday!

George’s spirit permeates and guides everything we do at the studio - from his generosity in teaching and sharing his love of printmaking, to his conviction that creativity in all its forms should be nurtured and cherished.

It is a true privilege to work and print in George’s studio, on his original press and surrounded by his work.

Join us this weekend as we open our doors as part of Melbourne Design Week and tour George’s studio and learn more about his life and work.

Experience the alchemy of printmaking in-person this weekend!

Join us for our annual Open Studio event and enjoy a series of printmaking demonstrations across a range of techniques - from intaglio etching and photogravure to relief linocut. Witness the alluring moment a print is pulled from the press.

No bookings required, but questions are encouraged on the day- learn more about the materials, techniques and craftsmanship involved in the printmaking process.

Saturday 23 May
11 am – Intaglio etching demonstration
2 pm – Relief linocut demonstration

Sunday 24 May
11 am – Photopolymer photogravure demonstration
2 pm – Intaglio etching demonstration

Tours of the studio & greenhouse will take place across the weekend with our working studio open from 10am-5pm, with tea, coffee and treats to enjoy.

Day three of the Advanced Collographs workshop with Sarah Amos has seen us move to the presses.

Learning about layering and positioning with some stunning work emerging.

Looking forward to a full day of printing today! Cannot wait to see the results!

The Advanced Collographs workshop with Sarah Amos is in full swing.

Day one was learning the process for making the plates. Day two has been learning the inking process, registration and printing.

It’s been fabulous to welcome Sarah back to Baldessin Studio, and it’s exciting to see how the work evolves.

We are looking forward to see how everyone’s prints turn out tomorrow and then how they evolve over the weekend!

Is there anything better than a fresh stack of paper? We've been busy priming and prepping plates in anticipation of the very exciting Advanced Collographs workshop with Sarah Amos which will run next week!

This workshop will run for 5 days and we are so excited to welcome Sarah back and to see the work produced!

We are delighted to once again be opening our studio doors as part of Melbourne Design Week 2026!

Immerse yourself in a world of printmaking during our annual Open Studio weekend on Saturday May 23rd & Sunday 24th May. Join us for demonstrations showcasing a variety of print techniques (11am and 2pm daily, no bookings required), view works by our current resident artists & fellows, the work of recent workshop attendees, and a display of intricate (and exquisite) artist books.

Lloyd Godman’s enchanting Greenhouse will also be open with an exhibition of experiential drawings, with visitors invited to sit and sketch in this stunning location, or to contribute to a communal artwork inspired by the ever expanding family of Tillandsia air plants.
