This Season of Creation 🍂🌿, students in their RE classes have been exploring the life and spirituality of St Francis of Assisi, and today they brought their learning off the page and onto our walls! 🎨✨

Inspired by Francis's Canticle of Creation, students reflected on Brother Sun ☀️, Sister Water 💧, Mother Earth 🌍, Brother Wind 🌬️, Brother Fire 🔥 and Sister Moon 🌙, considering what they appreciate about each element of creation, and one small, practical way they can care for it this week. 🙏

This year's global Season of Creation theme is Living Water 💦, calling us to immerse ourselves more deeply in caring for our common home. It felt fitting for our students to put "Sister Water" at the heart of their prayers and pledges, echoing that call to step in deeper and work together for the renewal of creation. 🌊🌏

🎨✨ Sculpting Connections! ✨🎨

On Tuesday, our Year 10 Drawing & Sculpture students spent an awesome all-day incursion with artist Tracey Lamb. 🖌️🌟

Using aluminium wire and ash wood, students crafted incredible individual pieces before teaming up to build collaborative sculptures based around the theme of friendship. 🪵🫶🤝

To top it off, everyone put new skills to the test by drawing and painting their finished creations! ✏️🎨

Year 11 VCE Media students have been participating in a hands-on Camera Workshop with Ms Elijah, developing their understanding of the Sony ZV-E10 mirrorless camera.

Students explored the Exposure Triangle (Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed) and worked collaboratively to experiment with manual camera settings and observe their effects on exposure, depth of field and motion.

The workshop helped students build confidence in manually operating the camera and develop the technical skills required for the practical production requirements of VCE Media.

Lunch with the Winners 2026

On 1 September, 16 of our Year 11 and 12 students had the wonderful opportunity to attend SEBN’s Lunch with the Winners - an inspiring event marking two decades of connection, inspiration and celebration.

The annual event brings together students, industry professionals and community leaders to showcase diverse career pathways and share stories of success, resilience and achievement.

This year’s keynote speaker was Nick Pearce, founder of HoMie, a Melbourne-based streetwear label and social enterprise. Nick shared his inspiring journey of transforming HoMie from a one-month pop-up store into a nationally recognised and award-winning organisation supporting young people experiencing homelessness and hardship.

Our students also had the opportunity to:

Connect with local industry representatives and engage in meaningful career conversations
Hear about a range of career pathways and industries
Participate in an interactive activity and fun quiz
Explore the impact of social enterprise and the importance of creating opportunities for young people

It was fantastic to see our students engaging, asking questions and making connections with industry.

A big thank you to SEBN for continuing to provide opportunities that inspire young people to think broadly about their future and the many pathways available to them.

💜 Community Conversations: Supporting Our Daughters 💬

On Tuesday evening, Killester parents and teachers came together for the first of our Community Conversation series, exploring “Helping Your Daughter Navigate Challenges in a Changing World”. 🌏

Parents shared their hopes for their daughters to be happy, resilient and successful learners with strong friendships and the confidence to achieve their goals. Discussions also explored challenges facing young people today, including social media, Artificial Intelligence, teenage identity, resilience and friendships. 💭🤝

The evening provided a valuable opportunity for families and staff to connect and strengthen the partnership between home and school. 💜 Feedback from the conversation will help shape our next session in Term 4, which will again be open to all parents.

🏆 CGSAV AEROBICS CHAMPIONS! 🏆

Congratulations to our talented Killester Aerobics team on an outstanding performance at the CGSAV Aerobics Competition! 💜👏

Our Year 10–12 team took out 1st place in the Division D Groups Competition, a fantastic achievement and wonderful recognition of their hard work, commitment and teamwork. 🥇✨

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Killester and congratulate them on bringing home the win! 💪🎉

A huge thank you to the staff who supported and prepared our students for the competition.

Mercy Moves Us. Justice Calls Us. 💙

Killester staff gathered at Scots’ Church in Melbourne for our Staff Faith Formation Day on Friday 21st August, taking time together to explore our 2026 theme of Justice through three important principles of Catholic Social Teaching — Dignity, Solidarity and Compassion.

Dr Gavin Brown led us through the story of the Good Samaritan. He challenged us to recognise that, at different moments in our lives, we can find ourselves in each person in the story. The one who is vulnerable, the one who walks past, the one who notices and, ultimately, the one who chooses to stop and respond. The challenge of the Gospel is to keep journeying towards the words of Jesus: “Go and do likewise.”

We then had the privilege of hearing from speakers from The Big Issue - Ray and Helen, who generously shared their stories and experiences of homelessness and vulnerability. Their stories invited us to listen with compassion, challenge assumptions and recognise the dignity of every person.

Staff then took to the streets of Melbourne for the Big City Search Challenge, experiencing our city through a different lens and gaining a deeper understanding of some of the everyday barriers faced by people experiencing homelessness.

Returning to Scots’ Church, we took time for reflection and contemplation. Through the lenses of Dignity – SEE, Solidarity – CONNECT and Compassion – RESPOND, we considered what we had seen, what we had come to understand and how we are now called to respond.

Finally, our reflections became our prayer. Each group contributed their own words, bringing our experiences together into one Killester community prayer. a prayer of gratitude, dignity, solidarity and compassion

May we see differently, walk together and have the courage to respond.
