A special moment from a Sunday 3pm Vietnamese Mass for Pentecost!
During his homily, Fr Thang invited parishioners to name the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit — with a $50 prize on offer. When no one volunteered, he turned to the young people.
One of our school Confirmation candidates bravely stepped forward and confidently named all seven gifts perfectly. It was a proud moment for his family, our school and our parish community.
Our candidates have now celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation, and we pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide them as they grow in faith and become more involved in the life of our parish community.
A beautiful reminder of courage, confidence and the Spirit at work among our young people.

🗣️✨ STUDENT VOICE IN ACTION! ✨🚌
Our four School Captains continue to shine as active members of both the Children’s Advisory Group and the Community Action Group—two student‑voice teams made up of young leaders from schools across the City of Greater Dandenong.
While these groups usually work separately to support community events and share ideas with Council about safety, wellbeing initiatives, and local projects, they recently teamed up for a community bus tour. Students explored key places around our area, including the Drum Theatre, local native nurseries, and other important community spaces.
A wonderful opportunity for our young leaders to learn, contribute, and make a difference.

Year 3 used torn‑newspaper collage in the Pop Art style.
Year 4 designed Tim Burton–inspired character portraits.
Year 5 created expressive Modigliani‑style pastel portraits.
A wonderful celebration of creativity across the school.

School Captains & Junior Mayor Speeches
Our School Captains proudly represent St Joseph’s Springvale through their involvement in the City of Greater Dandenong Children’s Advisory Group (CAG) and the Junior Civic Leaders Club (JCLC). Students in these groups collaborate with Primary School Leaders from across the community to share ideas on how to support and improve our local area. They work alongside organisations such as Mission Australia and the City of Greater Dandenong Events Planning Team to contribute to community activities and events.
This year, two of our students applied for the position of Junior Mayor. Their speeches highlight their thoughtful perspectives on child safety and wellbeing, reflecting their commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all children.

🇮🇹 Italian Day Celebration 🇮🇹
On Friday, we proudly celebrated Italian Day while also honouring the many cultures represented in our school community. It was a joyful celebration of cultural diversity, and an opportunity to recognise the important place Italian holds in our school as our Language of Choice.
Students dressed in their traditional cultural clothing, filling the day with colour and pride. We enjoyed dance, song, and a wonderful parade, which showcased the richness of our community.
Following the celebrations, students took part in a range of creative art activities and were treated to a live performance connected to our Italian program, further deepening their learning and enjoyment.
It was a fantastic day celebrating culture, language, and community — thank you to everyone who made it so special!
