Supporting International Students & Host Families
Connecting international students with caring Australian families for a safe, supportive, and enriching homestay experience. International students, who are attending Union Institute of Language (UIL) to study the English Language, are able to live in homestay accommodation with an
Australian family. Students value the opportunity to converse in English, to be involved in daily life and to learn in the company of other people. The aim is to provide a supportive environment in which students can be part of an Australian family where English is the first language, to practice their English, experience the Australian way of life and learn about Australian culture. Involvement with a student challenges a host family to become familiar with another culture, while providing the opportunity to share a young student's hopes and ambitions. These challenges and opportunities promise to enrich the lives of every member of your family. Most international students in homestay will wish to share in many aspects of family life. However, not being familiar with our culture and life style, they simply may not know how best to do this. They may feel hesitant and appear quite shy or be difficult to communicate with. A homestay experience has the potential to bring about intercultural awareness, mutual understanding and learning for the benefit of both parties.
