Hello Families,

During swimming lessons there are many changes with timetables and procedures. Unfortunately, this means that there will be no canteen recess or lunches for these two weeks.

The canteen will be closed on Friday 25th October and Friday 1st November.

Thank you for your patience with all the changes needed to make swimming lessons available for your children.

The canteen will reopen on Friday 8th November.

Good evening Spearwood PS families.
A friendly reminder that reports were sent home yesterday via Connect. PP to Year 6. Kindy reports will be sent tomorrow as hard copies.
Take time to read the report and sit with your child or children to complement their improvements and hard work.
If you would like a hard copy, please come to the office and the lovely office ladies will organise for you.

Please find below some useful tips about how to talk to your child about their report:

1. Schedule One-on-One Time: Set aside dedicated time to review your child's school report together. This demonstrates that you value their education and progress.
2. Emphasise Effort: Praise your child's efforts and improvements, regardless of grades. Encourage a growth mindset by highlighting the importance of hard work and perseverance. Above all, reassure your child that you are proud of them.
3. A ‘c’ grade means your child is working at the expected level: It is really important to acknowledge that a ‘c’ or ‘satisfactory’ grade means your child is working exactly where they need to be according to their year level.
4. Avoid Sibling Comparisons: Refrain from comparing your child's performance to that of their siblings or other close friends/ classmates. Each child is unique, with their own strengths and challenges.
5. Celebrate Differences: Help your child understand that everyone learns differently and excels in different areas. Encourage them to embrace their individual strengths and interests.
6. Set Realistic Expectations: Encourage your child to strive for personal improvement and progress rather than perfection. Set achievable goals together and celebrate their progress along the way.
7. Provide Support: Offer guidance and support to help your child overcome any challenges they may face. Let them know that you're there to help them succeed, no matter what and schedule a time to meet with the teacher to discuss this support.

Thank you,
Grace Adam
Principal

Friday is P&C DAY WA! This is the day we say THANK YOU to our amazing P&C!! Our Volunteers contribute so much to our school. The dedication and passion to help Spearwood PS with the outstanding educational experience they deserve is incredible.

At last count, on average WA P&Cs donated an estimated total of almost $12 million and nearly 500,000 volunteer hours each year to Western Australian school communities.

On Friday, we recognise and acknowledge that each hour volunteered and dollar donated helps ensure students at Spearwood PS have an outstanding educational journey.

This Sunday the City of Cockburn are holding their Volunteer Awards Night and Mrs Adam has nominated our P & C for Volunteer Group of the Year - it would be an amazing if they win but whatever happens we are very proud that they are representing Spearwood PS and and wish them the best of luck.

Dear Parents and Carers

As you may be aware, the Department of Education is negotiating with the State School Teachers’ Union (SSTUWA) and Principals’ Federation of Western Australia to reach an industrial agreement. While discussions are continuing, the SSTUWA will have a half-day stop-work meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 23 April. This means some of our teachers will attend the stop-work action and will return to school at 12.30pm. There will be some disruption to normal teaching and learning programs on Tuesday morning, with students in attendance provided with supervision and a modified program of activities. Regular teaching and learning will commence at 12.30 pm. The Department of Education has assured us that they are making every effort to minimise the inconvenience to our school and families and resolve the situation with unions as quickly as possible.

We are open tomorrow for students to attend school and will be supervised and cared for while the strike is in action.

Thank you for your support of this matter.

Kind regards

Mrs Grace Adam

Principal
