What a fun day we had last month celebrating in our pyjamas! The children absolutely loved arriving in their cosiest PJs and spending the day in comfort with their friends.
It was such a special way to bring our centre community together, we can’t wait to do it again next year!

This month, we’ve been focusing on n**e lunchboxes 💚
A n**e lunchbox is free from single-use plastic and unnecessary packaging. By packing waste-free lunches, our families are supporting:
🥪 Healthier food habits
♻️ Less waste to landfill
🌏 Lifelong sustainability values
From reusable containers to fresh, wrapper-free snacks, we’re proud to be part of the Plastic Free July movement and to model eco-conscious choices every day at kindy.
Let’s continue to work together to raise environmentally aware little people who care deeply for their world. 🌱

This week we honoured National Tree Day as our children completed activities that allowed them to build an early appreciation for the environment and develop a lifelong sense of responsibility for the world around them. Our toddlers created bird feeders to hang in our trees, encouraging curiosity about local wildlife and teaching them the value of nurturing all living things. Meanwhile, our older children planted seeds in planters, learning firsthand about sustainability, growth, and the role trees play in our ecosystem.
Through nature-based learning, children begin to understand the interconnectedness of living things, explore concepts like growth and sustainability, and experience the joy of caring for something beyond themselves.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2025 at The Learning Nook 🖤❤️💛
This week, our children immersed themselves in hands-on learning experiences to honour and celebrate First Nations culture and storytelling.
✨ We created our very own Rainbow Serpents using colourful pipe cleaners and string, inspired by the Dreamtime story of Mundagudda, a powerful spirit that shaped the rivers and landscapes of Country.
🖐 In the red dirt and clay, we drew traditional symbols and talked about their meanings in Aboriginal art and communication.
🎨 We explored the Aboriginal flag colours in painting, learning how each colour represents land, people and spirit.
🎶 And we discovered the Didgeridoo. Our educators shared the cultural practice that, traditionally, only boys play the didgeridoo, offering a respectful look at the customs passed down through generations.
Through these meaningful activities, we continue to embed cultural awareness into our everyday learning, helping children grow with empathy, respect and curiosity for the rich history of this land and its people.

Our team is wearing something very special this week—a shirt designed by Sheri Skele, a proud Bidjara woman and Aboriginal artist. Her artwork honours 2023’s NAIDOC Week theme: “For Our Elders.”
The piece tells stories of Sheri’s Country—Bidjara land in South West QLD—featuring ancient waterways, bushlands, and the Rainbow Serpent, Mundagudda.
It acknowledges the cultural knowledge passed through generations and the resilience of Elders who’ve kept traditions alive for over 60,000 years.
We feel incredibly proud to wear this artwork and continue our commitment to cultural education every day at The Learning Nook.
