There is something special about the moment a child notices that something they have cared for is growing.

A tiny hand reaching out to touch a green tomato is a reminder that children learn through real experiences, taking time to observe, wonder and connect with the world around them.

At Enrich, our Gardening Program gives children opportunities to nurture plants, explore nature and experience the joy of seeing their care and patience make a difference.

Outdoor learning gives children the freedom to move, explore and engage their senses, all of which can support language development in meaningful ways.

A letter card at the table can spark conversations about the sounds we hear, the objects we see, the stories we imagine and the words children are curious to use. In these moments, language becomes connected to real life, rather than something separate from it.

𝗬𝗮𝘆! 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴!” 🚒 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱.
“I love fire trucks!” another replied. Then came an observation that made everyone smile. “My shoes are red, like a fire truck.”

Our local heroes from the Southport Fire and Rescue Station visited the children at Enrich Early Education to teach them about smoke alarms, what to do if they ever see a fire and of course, meeting their local firefighters.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀.

They help children build confidence to ask questions, communicate with others, solve problems, develop empathy and make sense of the world around them.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀🎓

We love peeking through the classroom windows and seeing the activities that the educators have carefully prepared. Sorting and stacking coloured wooden blocks is not only an enjoyable activity. It helps develop early math skills, concentration, and fine motor skills.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲.

In honour of NAIDOC Week, the children gathered for a yarning circle, a way of coming together shared by many First Nations communities where stories, ideas and experiences are shared through listening and connection.

Together, we practised calming breaths, settled our bodies and minds, and shared our Acknowledgement to Country to show respect for the Traditional Custodians of the land where we learn and play.

Through song, movement and music, children explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures using clapping sticks, rain sticks, shakers and the xylophone. They discovered the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and began to develop an appreciation for the rich cultures, histories, and stories of First Nations peoples.

For young children, experiences like these nurture empathy, curiosity and respect, while helping them understand that our community is shaped by many different stories, cultures and perspectives.

Following our yarning circle, the toddlers continued their morning with purposeful Montessori-inspired experiences.

They carefully transferred rice between bowls, strengthening concentration and fine motor skills. They moulded and stamped homemade play-dough sea creatures with wooden stamps, then added natural materials such as shells, pine cones and popsicle sticks to bring their creations to life.

Other children continued exploring familiar classroom experiences, including the coin box, opening the jar, caring for dolls, dinosaur play, and quiet book reading.

Throughout the morning, children moved between moments of connection, creativity and independent exploration. Building confidence while developing respect for themselves, each other and the world around them.

Children are learning to keep going when things don't go to plan.

They are learning to eat from a lunchbox because soon, they'll be heading off to primary school.

They are learning to wait, to lead, to listen, to negotiate and to care for one another.

These are the foundations that support children not only in school, but throughout life.

In the early years, we often focus on letters and numbers, but equally important are the human skills that help children flourish: curiosity, empathy, resilience, independence and emotional awareness.

Our role is to create environments that invite children to think deeply, make meaningful choices and feel capable in their own learning journey.

Because before children learn what to think, they learn how to think.

Before they become students, they become problem-solvers, communicators, collaborators and kind friends.
