Ready to go - Book lists, uniform, school fees, school bag,lunch box all bought and ready for the school 2025. Is your child really ready for the new school year?

Here are my top tips for a successful school year.

1. Identify the previous year’s successes and celebrate them. Highlight the things that didn’t go too well and figure out ways to face similar challenges that might be faced this year.

2. Be organised - timetable,routine at home, request a course outline and plan around assessments.

3. Space learning - chunk learning.

4. Without being an overbearing helicopter parent keep your finger on the pulse.

5. Have high expectations. You child will meet them.

6. Set boundaries - no phones during study time.

7. Teach your child that it’s ok to ask for help and that teachers get paid to teach.

8. Provide your child with the tools, techniques and skills to learn.

9.An A or a D does not reflect how much or how little a child knows.

10. Patience and time are needed for learning.

So you got your report mmmmmm. 😶🧐 Take a deep breath, it isn’t all bad news. Don’t let a piece of paper define your ability. Instead of worrying and being reactive... Be PROACTIVE!!
Do these five things to ensure your results are way better next time.
1. Ask for more targeted feedback. A couple of sentences in a report comment means nothing.📝
2. Request copies of failed tests and assignments, identify where the gaps in learning are. Discuss with the teacher. 🔖 use the holidays to catch up.
3. Relearn the topics that held you back. Get help from a tutor or use the internet. There are plenty of free tutorials available. 👨🏻‍💻
4. Chunking the topic into small achievable portions is the best way to go. ✂️
5. Keep a study journal. At the end of each day write everything you learned about the topic.📕
Finally remember small steps everyday will ensure you get the desired outcome. 📈
