This Week’s Topic is Self Defence!!!

This week we’ll be looking at a bunch of different self-defence situations, how to be aware of them, what to do, and how to safely escape.

We’ll work through different grab escapes, including hair grabs, shirt grabs and choke grabs. We’ll also look at our headlock escapes and how to deal with these situations effectively.

It should be a great week of learning and fun. See everyone on the mat, in class this week!!!

“Prove yourself to yourself, not to everyone else.”

It's easy to get caught up trying to impress people or live up to someone else's expectations. But at the end of the day, the person who matters most in your journey is you.

Everyone's path is different. Some people will progress faster, others will take more time, and that's okay. You don't need to be the strongest, fastest, smartest, or best in the room. What matters is that you're putting in the work, facing your challenges head-on, and becoming better than you were yesterday.

When the focus is always on being better than someone else, it's easy to lose sight of your own progress. The real goal should be to keep learning, improving, and becoming the best version of yourself.

Set your own goals. Push yourself for the right reasons. Don't worry about who is watching or where someone else is up to.

Because one of the best feelings is looking back and realising you've become someone you once thought you couldn't be.

Congratulations to our Students of the Term!!!

These students have put in a lot of hard work over the last few months, pushing themselves, helping others, and setting a great example on the mats.

It’s been great to see their effort, attitude and progress, as well as the positive impact they’ve had on the students around them.

Congratulations to:

- Teens: Eden

Well done, guys! You should all be really proud of the work you’ve put in. Keep up the great work!

This Week’s Topic is Wrestling!!!

This week we’ll be looking at some basic grab escapes and grip breaking. We’ll also add finishes from our escapes and work on our pathways to the back, including arm drags and duck unders.

As the week progresses, we’ll add different finishes and takedowns from the back, building on the techniques we’ve been working on throughout the week.

Should be a good week; looking forward to seeing everyone in the gym this week!

“You were built for more than staying comfortable.”

Being comfortable is nice, but growth doesn't happen there. It happens when you step outside what's familiar, take on new challenges, and push yourself to do things you didn't think you could.

Some of the biggest changes come from the moments that test you the most. The challenges that push you further than expected and make you question what you're capable of are often the moments that help you grow the most.

Stepping outside your comfort zone isn't about being fearless. It's about being willing to try, even when something feels difficult, unfamiliar, or out of reach. Every challenge you face is an opportunity to learn something, build confidence, and become stronger.

Don't settle for staying where things are easy. Keep pushing yourself, take on the challenges in front of you, and keep finding out just how much you're capable of.

Sportsmanship is really important in martial arts. It’s important not just in competition, but also on the mats during training.

It’s about how you treat and support your training partners and showing your coaches respect. The people you train with are trusting you to help them learn, improve and get better, just as you are trusting them to do the same for you.

It’s about being humble, not being arrogant when you win, score a point or get a submission, and not being a sore loser or complaining about every small thing. Because at the end of the day, there will always be wins and losses. What matters is what you choose to do with them.

A win shouldn’t make you look down on someone, and a loss shouldn’t make you give up or take it out on someone else. Every round is an opportunity to learn, improve and help the person beside you improve too.

The people you train with are a big part of your journey. Push each other, support each other, celebrate each other’s wins and learn from the losses.

Good job to everyone who graded on the weekend!

It was great to see everyone step up, test their skills and push themselves through the grading. Grading isn’t just about getting a new belt, it’s about seeing the progress you’ve made, the work you’ve put in and how much you’ve developed along the way.

Everyone has come a long way, and it was great to see the effort, determination and commitment from everyone on the day. You should all be proud of what you’ve achieved.

Now it’s time to keep working, keep improving and step up into your new belts. We’re looking forward to seeing what the term bring.

This Week’s Topic is Striking!!!

We’re back at the start of the trimester, and this week we’ll be getting back into our basic striking.

We’ll look at our boxing combinations and pad work, while also working on our stance and footwork, along with movement and distance management. It’s a great opportunity to sharpen up the basics and build a strong foundation for the trimester ahead.

Looking forward to a great week! See you guys all in class.
