🌟 Meet the Team Monday 🌟

This week we're introducing Emma, our Assistant Manager here at Discovery Cove ELC!

💛 Her passion: My passion is making sure everything happens behind the scenes so everyone else doesn't have to think about it! I love knowing exactly where every policy, procedure and piece of paperwork lives for our children, families and educators, and making sure we're always meeting our compliance requirements. It might not be the most glamorous job, but it means our families can trust that Discovery Cove is running exactly as it should.

📖 Favourite children's book: The Very Cranky Bear or Hairy Maclary

📂 Best part of her role: Ticking off the last box on a compliance checklist and knowing every family's paperwork is exactly where it should be.

☀️ Favourite part of the day: The greetings she gets when she's visiting a room, or when the children come for a walk to the office.

📚 Fun fact: Emma loves getting lost in a good book, especially one that takes her on a journey to far-off lands!

We're so lucky to have Emma keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Stay tuned as we introduce more of our team over the coming weeks!

🌟 Meet the Team Monday 🌟

We're kicking off a new series where you can get to know the amazing humans behind Discovery Cove ELC! First up, our wonderful Centre Director and Early Childhood Teacher, Cody!

💛 Her passion: Building trusting, meaningful relationships with children and families, and creating a warm, welcoming home away from home where every child feels safe, secure and valued. Cody also loves mentoring our educators to become the best they can be, so they can create rich, engaging programs built around each child's unique interests and strengths.

📖 Favourite children's book: Green Eggs and Ham

🎨 Favourite activity: Leading an interactive group-time mat session! Cody loves finding fun, engaging ways to capture the children's interest and spark their learning.

☀️ Favourite part of the day: Hearing the funny and imaginative things the children say. (We don't blame her, some of the things they come out with!)

🐶 Fun fact: Cody is a dog mum to a chocolate Cavalier Spaniel! When she's not at the centre, you'll usually find her spending time with her family and her pup.

We're so lucky to have Cody leading our team. Stay tuned as we introduce more of our staff over the coming weeks!

🎶 Friday means Toddler Jam at Discovery Cove ELC! 🎶
Every Friday, our wonderful Approved Provider, James, brings his passion for early childhood education, music and community connection to life through Toddler Jam!

Toddler Jam is an action-packed, music-infused social program for parents and children under 5 years of age, filled with music, movement, dancing, instruments and plenty of fun!
Each Friday, our toddlers from Discovery Cove ELC head over to the Austin Lakes Common Community Space with their educators to join in the community Toddler Jam session too! We love that our children get to participate alongside local families, providing a wonderful opportunity to build connections and feel part of their wider community.
Everyone is welcome to come along and join in!

✨ First session FREE for local community families to come along and give Toddler Jam a try!
🎶 $10 per session for one child
🎶 $15 per session for two or more children from the same family

After our community session, the fun continues back at Discovery Cove ELC, where James visits our Buccaneer Bay room to run a special Toddler Jam session with our older children. This session forms part of our Centre program and is not open to the public.
These regular experiences provide our children with wonderful opportunities to develop their confidence, coordination, communication, social skills and creativity through music and movement, while strengthening their sense of connection and belonging within the wider community.
We are so lucky to have an Approved Provider who doesn't just work behind the scenes, but genuinely loves getting involved, building relationships and creating memorable experiences for our children and community.

🦷✨ Dental Health Week at Discovery Cove ELC! ✨🪥

Last week, we celebrated Dental Health Week with a very special visit from the Tooth Fairy! 🧚‍♀️🦷
We were fortunate to connect with our local community and welcome Murray Dental Care to Discovery Cove ELC for a fun and educational dental health incursion.
The Tooth Fairy spent time with the children talking about the importance of looking after our teeth, making healthy choices and, of course, showing us how to brush our teeth properly! 🪥😁 The children were able to learn about dental health in a fun, engaging and age-appropriate way, helping them build positive healthy habits that they can carry into their everyday routines.

To make the visit even more special, the children also received some wonderful dental health goody bags to take home and continue their learning with their families. 💙🧡

A huge thank you to Murray Dental Care for taking the time to visit us and for helping us make Dental Health Week such a meaningful experience for our children and to our community engagement officer Chloe for helping set this up. We love creating connections with organisations and businesses within our local community and using these partnerships to provide new and exciting learning opportunities for the children at Discovery Cove ELC.

🌱 Our EYLF Learning Connections:
Outcome 3 – Children have a strong sense of wellbeing: supporting children to develop knowledge, skills and positive habits that contribute to their physical health and wellbeing.
Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators: encouraging children to listen, ask questions, engage in conversations and develop new understandings around dental health and caring for their bodies.
Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world: providing opportunities for children to engage with members of their wider local community and understand the different people and services within it.

🌟 Have you seen our new QIP display?

If you've walked past our foyer lately, you'll have spotted something new: our Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) display!

For those who haven't come across the term before, a QIP is a working document every childcare centre in Australia keeps under the National Quality Framework. It's where we reflect on how we're tracking across all areas of our service, celebrate what we've achieved, and plan what we want to improve next. Ours is a living document, and this display is a way to bring it to life and share it with you.

This week we're shining a light on:

📋 Quality Area 6 – Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities
🤝 Quality Area 7 – Governance and Leadership

This display is a work in progress, so keep an eye out. Over the coming weeks we'll be adding more as we work through our QIP review and celebrate everything we've achieved across all 7 Quality Areas.

We'd also love your input. Quality improvement works best as a two-way conversation, so if there's something you'd love to see us focus on (in any Quality Area), we want to hear it. Chat to your educators, or use one of our feedback forms which can be found in our display.

✨ What an incredible Vacation Care program we had at Discovery Cove ELC! ✨

Over the school holidays, our children enjoyed an action-packed program filled with exciting adventures, new experiences and plenty of laughter. From exploring Timezone Arcade, meeting amazing animals during our Redz Zoo incursion, gliding across the ice at Mandurah on Ice, and bouncing the day away at Rebound Trampoline Park, every day brought something new and exciting!

Alongside these fantastic excursions and incursions, our children also took part in a variety of fun themed days, creative activities and group experiences that encouraged friendships, confidence, creativity and, most importantly, lots of fun. It has been wonderful watching everyone create lasting memories together, and we can't wait to do it all again!

💙 Keep Discovery Cove ELC in mind for your child's next school holidays! Our Vacation Care program is packed with exciting experiences designed especially for school-aged children.

🧡 We also offer a Before & After School Care program for Children at Austin Cove Baptist Primary, with places currently available. Our program is thoughtfully designed for school aged children, providing engaging, age-appropriate experiences where they can relax, play, build friendships and enjoy their time before and after school in a safe, welcoming environment.

That's why you may notice our educators wearing pictorial communication and emotion cards. These visual supports help children express themselves in a way that is meaningful and accessible to them, regardless of their age, language development or communication style.
Visual cues can:

✨ Reduce frustration by providing alternative ways to express themselves.
